Michael Moore "The Big One"

I saw this film on IFC last night. He made it back in '97 and he was pissed about the unemployment and layoffs. Was the economy in the Clinton era as bad as he made it sound or was he 1, lying 2, blowing things out of proportion 3, intenionaly distorting the truth to meet his agenda? Any thoughts?

there no oil in flint for bush to covet.

Perhaps Flint isn't good at adapting to changing times and technologies. Why isn't a local or regional revitalization effort plan in place?

I agree, nation building is expensive and time consuming. We still have troops in Kosovo and unemployment is still 35% there.

I got the impression that MM felt that Unions were the saviour of the american worker. He showed all of these union jobs that were lost to Mexico and cheaper places. He blamed the companies yet, I blame the consumers. We for the most part drive what people sell. I mentioned before when I worked in the bicycle Business we had tubing made by Easton in Van Nuyes, Shipped to Portland to get welded and painted and shipped back as a frame. We had the same tubing shipped to Taiwan welded painted and shipped back and the landed cost difference was $585 for the US one and under $200 for the MIT (maid in Taiwan) Frame. We touted the "MADE IN THE USA" but we sold 20 times more MIT than USA. Consumers dont want to pay 300 for Nikes to have them made here. Until they are willing to pay more for goods outsourcing is a way of life. and I know what you are thinking the CEO was just pocketing all of the extra cash. Not so, I watched him leverage his home to pay for our first run of bikes. He, his wife and kids would come help load and unload trucks when needed. It was a small company with 7 employees at the time and we were lean and mean.

If you have a manufactuing job and think you are going to compete with offshore manufactiong you are dreaming. We as a country manufcture verry little for places like China who are booming to consume.

I am just wondering if there is a patern to MM's madness, "Mis-represent the truth"

So brief, so simple and Oh so true. It's all about money. Follow the money trail and see who the mother****er is on the end of the line.
