Nice Recovery

Wonder if he could have made this recovery in a Tourweg?

Four sets of skidmarks ... one from the truck, one from the driver, one from the co-driver, one from the guy running away!

Tishabet 07-01-2004 08:54 AM

holy crap!

Moses 07-01-2004 09:36 AM

How in the hell did the driver avoid that drop off after that wild ride?

speeder 07-01-2004 10:23 AM

I have never seen anyone avoid a roll like that, OMFG!!

That is actually a good instructional video of how to save a roll by steering into it, in a "soft roll" it would be very effective. In a sports car w/o the extreme ground clearence you would not still be able to steer when the vehicle is that far tipped, however.

trj911 07-01-2004 10:33 AM

And he keeps on racing like nothing happenned!

osidak 07-01-2004 11:02 AM

Ok I am impressed. The true question is would the pepper recover :)

Sorry guys I had to.

I think that more pure dumb luck rather than skill and the driver pretty much just rode it out.

I would like to see the Dakar Touareg do the same thing

No doubt a lot of luck was involved, but watch the slow motion part. You can see the driver turning into the roll both times.

BlueSkyJaunte 07-01-2004 11:16 AM

Mostly luck. If he were *that* skilled, the roll would've never started in the first place.

DonDavis 07-01-2004 11:24 AM

YOWZA! What do you guys think the "Pucker-factor" was? 9.5, 9.7?

Saintly 07-01-2004 02:06 PM

I think that after that their a$ses where going
Manhole cover
10 cent coin
manhole cover
10 cent coin
manhole cover....

techweenie 07-01-2004 03:28 PM

Damn, that's impressive. I'm sure you noticed that he re-centered the steering after both near-rolls. I vote 85% skill and 15% luck. The luck comes in mainly in avoiding the drop-off...

KevinP73 07-01-2004 03:40 PM

That got my heart rate up just watching !! I bet he got back to his pit crew and said "I meant to do that!"

bell 07-01-2004 04:02 PM

the guy with the camera could've stood still and had one hell of a set of sequence shots :D

Jeff964 07-02-2004 08:48 AM

Now, that's what I call off-road!!

SteveStromberg 07-02-2004 03:43 PM

He went to the Uni, Roy and Al School of driving.

rcecale 07-02-2004 06:10 PM

Randy

KevinP73 07-02-2004 06:17 PM

Dude in the mustang can drive !!

nostatic 07-02-2004 11:42 PM

I thought they were saying Oklahoma City. Sick driving in the Mustang...especially the reverse and off road to the other street. The high speed spins reminded me of Sato's spin during qualifying at Indy. Full 360 and just kept on going. And still qualified ahead of a bunch of cars...

Schrup 07-03-2004 05:23 AM

Guy in the Mustang got skills. They need to ship him off to the Academy to instruct. Must have been pretty frustrating for the cops. Lucky for him he wasn't in LA to suffer the compulsory beating after being extracted from the car.
