Not a Darwin award, but...

Today at lunch an orthopedic surgeon was relating one of his more interesting cases.

Seems a man had some work to do on the north side of his roof. It is a steep roof so being safety minded he decides to tie himself off with a safety rope. No chimney to tie on, so up goes the rope over the peak of the roof then down the south side of the house. Hmmm. No trees to tie on, so he ties up to the bumper of his truck.

All goes well until his wife decides to go to the store for some coffee...in his truck.

What a drag! Where was this? Jasper, Texas?

Thom, you are toooo funny!

Anyway, it had to happen in the East Bay because he went to John Muir Hospital. Can you imagine the look on his face when he heard his truck start?

Apparently he was pulled up one side of the roof rather slowly, but came down the other side a little faster.

moses, are you a doc at john muir? that is the emergency room i had to go to, when i gashed my hand open, shucking oysters. i have to admit, that is the best hospital i have ever been to in my life. and i have been to a bunch.

the poor roof guy, what an idiot! what did he break?

He broke his spine and a few other things, but I hear he's OK now. I work at both John Muir and San Ramon.

Hmm....sounds like a good case for installing an ignition killswitch.

an x girlfriend of mine worked at a doc in the box ER and had some great stories of dumb ace people. she used to photo copy the form they would fill out to be admitted. some of the things people wrote were the funniest things ive ever read.

Funny enough to be sadly true. Could also be an urban legend as I've it from many other sources.http://urbanlegends.about.com/

That will be one to add to his list of happily married moments. All I can say is ouch. I think next time he might say, honey I am up on the roof and I am tied to the truck.
