Google is your friend. MS says (at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=827349) that Outlook is broken and cannot be repaired. You should give up and use some other mail client, if that's an option for you. In my case, the Navy dictates that Microsoft is god, king, judge, jury, and executioner, so I'm SOL, but there may yet be hope for you. (sigh)

Seriously, the MS support site basically says you need some upgrade patching stuff. Looks like your outgoing mail server probably changed what they were doing without telling you, and your machine, being infested with Microsoft crud couldn't adapt.

Maybe your ISP is having issues. If you can browse and you cannot send mail, I bet its your ISP. Try it again in few minutes. Call your ISP and see if they are having sendmail problems.

I dont really like Outlook either, but I rarely have problems with it. Im going to switch over to Mozilla when it gets a little further along. The only really bad problem Ive seen people have with Outlook was that the .PST file will corrupt itself when it gets much larger than 1 GB.

Andy, my wife's outlook is having this EXACT same problem and you know who (ME) is paying the price for it. Did you get this resolved? How?

Desperate in Cleveland,

mac....mac....mac....

Mozilla is plenty robust for day-to-day use (although I use Mail.app). Thunderbird is going to be cool, and is easily already as stable as any MS produkt.

Well I see plenty of ideas here (hmmm). Actually here are a couple of things for you to try.

1) Determine where the problem might be (ISP or local software)?

Can you get on the internet? Do you have an alternate way to check mail? Try a freeware program such as mailwasher or eudora (if they are still around).

2) If you can check your mail and you know it is Outlook Express, then go under Tools, Email Accounts and re-setup your information (possibility of corruption) see if you can get your mail then. Double check your POP settings with your ISP - their may have changed their access information.

3) If all else fails, remove and reinstall Outlook Express. Be sure to back up your mail before. If you need help with that - just post and I will explain.

All three of your Macs don't have a right mouse button. That is a PITA. I don't know how you do it. I hope you at least have 1 PC in the house.

funny, but my orbit has two buttons...works fine with my mac. Have one on all my desktop machines.

I keep 1 pc on my desk (a tablet) for interfacing with our gawd aweful exchange server when necessary. But I'm gonna kill that POS too. I've already shut down most of the IIS nonsense in our organization.

I went to my dads yesterday and tried to pick up my mail from his PC. when I fired up my account in outlook and tried to send/recieve it recieved my mail but when I tried a test mail it failed with the exact same error. so this means its got to be settings or ISP right?

P.S. thanks for all this advice. Oh and Joe-Im still at the desperate stage iim afraid!
