Refrigeration unit removal

Hello and Help!
I'm renting a property that unfortunately contains an old 1930's wooden refrigeration unit. THe unit (refrigerator) is approximately 9X7 in size.
My question is this, how do I dispose of the unit, and does the wooden revfrigeration box have coolant lines running through it (the walls/floor) I've called 12 companies and all of them suggest calling the borough to make arrangements to remove it. THis could cost thousands of dollars that I don't want to spend.
Thanks,
Frank B

Most power (utility) companies will remove your old refrigerator and/or freezer for free. They don't wan't inefficient technology to get passed on. In my area they also give a $50 savings bond to boot.

I'd give them a call and see if they can help or make a recommendation.

Wow. I wonder if that is old enough to be using ammonia as a refrigerant?

Same situation in our office. There is a GIANT A/C unit from an old-school early 80's computer room. We have given up hope that it can be economically removed as walls & windows etc would likely have to be pulled out in order to get a crane in place...

Soo....maybe hang a blanket over it?

HI Guys,
Ammonia? Holy "S" ! THere are water lines running to and from the unit. I've called my borough codes enforcement officer and he said remove it and just throw it away. He offered no advice at all. I guess I'm glad about that. THe walls and front can be taken down I'd guess, and the ceiling also. The back of the unit is blocking a door that would be accessing the rear entrance of my shop, which is actually the side door, although there is a rear door in use now. I'm stumped, I guess I should just have someone cut it out and bring it to a dump site, after all it is just a huge wooden box. Any other thoughts?
