went to a beemer dealership
gave a friend a ride to pick up his new 330. the dealership is strange. i heard a bunch of sellers telling potential buyers a load of crap. one in particular was, " i commute everyday from ____, and i have never seen a new 6series convertable. you can be the first in your neighborhood!". there was people buying all types of bmw clothing, keychains, and stuff. i gotta admit that two door 6whatever is a nice looking car! i saw a new M3 silver with red leather interior that was nice looking too. maybe one day i will own a M3. the free coffee was nice! my 911 didnt even raise an eyebrow. haha. i am so glad it started!
my main beef was no-one was emphasizing the performance of these cars. power, brake, and handleing. even my friend admitted he will never drive the car over the speed limit. breakin instructions were to keep the car under 100mph. i would test that. cliff

That's funny, same thing happened to me recently when i went to the porsche dealership to get a part. Salesmen everywhere trying to jack up prices for some old, uneducated couple that wanted a 4S. The main thing they were telling them? "The AC in this car is outstanding, to keep you cool in town on hot days!!"
I walked in (i'm 20 mind you) and got a double take from the nearest salesman, like "what the heck do YOU want?" Bought my $1.06 fuse and walked out with a smile on my face. Got to sit in a new Turbo Cab though, those are pretty neat. -Ian |

When you get a little "older", going into a dealership can be fun. The sales person does not know if you are a poor bastard, or the "millionaire next door" type. But the spiel is almost always the same. Treasure a sales person who actually KNOWS what he or she is talking about. I knew a Ford salesman who was very successful. He leased three cars to loan out to his customers when their cars were being serviced and he spent on the average one day a month in the maintenance bays with coveralls actually working with the mechanics. He is now dead and gone, and I doubt I will ever see his kind again.

I've been more impressed with my local BMW dealer than with the local Porsche dealer. I couldn't even get the Porsche dealer to acknowledge I was there.

I base a dealership on whether they acknowledge me when I walk into the dealership. I am young also and once I brought an old beat up car to a dealership and they ignored me except for one question. They asked was how soon I was looking to buy a car. I went back to this dealership 3 years later and received much better treatment and a comparison of two cars I was looking at and bought my VW a little over invoice price. Not the greatest deal but I will know better for next time should their be a next time.
As far as BMW dealerships, I went in and talked about my Porsche (didn't say the year) and they were bowing down to me and I test drove the 330i Performance Car and I parked the car better than the salesman and he asked if I wanted a job.

We have been looking at a wide range of cars for several weeks. We got lucky with the sales reps: 1 was poor, 2 were fair, and one was great.
So, my wife just bought a new Audi S4 from the great sales rep. We test drove evrything they had on the lot and even did a 24 hour test of a twin turbo A6. Salesman know everything about the cars, but was very low key when he quickly figured out that I was a "motor head" too. It was absolutely the best car buying experience we have ever had! BTW, pretty nice car too. ![]()

Ha, I was wearing jeans and t-shirt in our local Porsche dealership quite keen to buy a (at the time) near new 964 C2. The salesman treated me like a car thief then turned his attention to an old guy in a suit. The fool, chances are I had three times as much money as the old guy and was about to buy the C2. I should really go back and thank him for saving me all that depreciation money.

I went in to Roseville BMW with my wife, looking for an X5 4.4. Took a drive, offered KBB book value, which was 10K below what they wanted, but still book value. The punk said "perhaps the 4.4 is not in your price range, and the 3.0 is more appropriate to your income level."
Got up and went to the VW dealer, where we bought a loaded Touareg V8. BMW dealers = *******s. I could not believe this guy's arrogance. Do they teach that at BMW school? ![]()

we had a great Audi dealer experience too. Our salesman actually listened to what we wanted, knew we weren't going to buy *today* when we showed up the first time, and we test drove a couple of cars to find the right fit. When my wife finally decided, the price was fair, and he spent over an hour on delivery going over all aspects of the car and how to operate it.
That being said it comes down to the individual salesman though... |

I wandered into the Porsche showroom after visiting the parts department. The salesman walked up, and told me the Cabriolet was sold, and asked what I'm interested in. I said I'm a track junkie, and the only new Porsche that I'm interested in is a GT-3.
He chuckled, and said "They ride too rough" and walked back to his desk. |

I got my Acura from a dealer in Natick, MA. They were so good at treating me and my car, that for anything that was over my head, I drove out of my way to get them to do it. It might have helped that the mechanics and the service dept people knew I knew what I was talking about but they were extremely helpful. Setting my camber, installing a sway bar, coilovers, even the odd oil change b/c of "while I was there" would be honored. I brought my own RedLine to them. They bled my brakes, when the VTEC sensor crapped out and parts dept was out, they PULLED one out of an NSX from the floor for me, so I could have it right then! Exhaust leak, wheel balance, breaking my rotor hat bolts loose, you name it, they did it. A lot of that little stuff was free or severely shortened on the actual labor time. They would even back my car into the garage b/c of a low splitter clearance... Just writing this makes me miss them and the experiences with that car LOL |

The local Pcar dealership has always been very freindly to me when I stop in for parts, especially the parts manager. I have a coworker that inherited some money & wanted to buy a Boxster S. When he went in, they wouldn't deal with him unless he filled out a credit report. He walked out, drove 40 miles north & bought one from the dealer in Bellevue whom he said treated him much better & are probable used to people walking in & paying cash.

Schrup's local dealer is mine. Yup, the one that's not interested in GT-3's. If I ever decide to buy something new, it will take place about 40 miles North.
They DO have a great parts department, though. |

When I started school in the Bay Area, this waitress at an ethnic restraunt left me sitting for about 20 minutes and then wouldn't serve me. I ended up going to another across the street every day for the next few years.
I always wished I'd saved each receipt and dumped them on the counter at graduation. |

Come to think of it, I've never had good assistance in a Porsche dealership. On the other hand, no matter when I've stopped in the Ferrari of Houston dealership from almost 30 years ago when I was kid to a few years ago, they've always taken the time to talk to me.

Both Porsche dealerships in So Cal...Woodland Hills and Torrance recently treated me very well on my visits. I was semi-dress casual in Woodland Hills, but total Jeans and Clairborne short sleeve v-neck shirt at Torrance.
If you look "money" and walk the walk...people will treat you well no matter what you wear. ![]() |

When I go in dealerships I wear an Aston Martin ball cap. Its unusual enough that they conclude that I might just own one and they treat me pretty well.

I could care less if they know I'm broke, I can be quite obnoxious when provoked.
