definitions

In line with my other post concerning discussing politics and voting with my 18 year old niece, I need help with some definitions.

Liberal
Conservative
Moderate
Republican
Democrat

I am looking for real world definitions as opposed to Websters.
It is tough explaining classical/historical definitions and then applying it to todays versions of the above labels.

Re: definitions

Liberal -- Self-made Victim, who wants to be liked.
Conservative -- Driver/Leader, who wants to be respected.
Moderate -- Indecisive, who wants no arguing.
Republican -- takes your money, but says your getting it back
Democrat -- takes your money, but says it's for "good"

scenario: a man is drowning 50 feet from shore. on the shore is a 45-foot length of rope. a liberal, conservative and moderate walk by. the following are their reactions

the liberal throws the entire length of the rope into the water directly at the man, rendering the act completely useless, and blames the conservative for not having given enough to provide the missing five feet

the conservative will hold on to one end, throw the other out to the man and encourage him to try as hard as he can to swim the five feet to reach the end of the rope so that he may be pulled to safety

the moderate will belabor the issue by saying that both sides have good and bad points and that more research is needed to solve the problem. will probably ask for the appointment of a blue ribbon panel

oh, and island: "Democrat -- takes your money, but says it's for 'good'," and should you have a nickel more than he or she, will automatically paint you as evil because obviously you must have screwed someone to have it

Conservative: "I can save the drowning man by taking the rope and giving it to the guy with the 200' yacht."

...who can then come alongside the drowning man and pull him out

brilliant thinking, Thom!! ;)

Well, who needs to think about a response, when they can just paste in some tired old e-mail joke?

Or, you could listen to Ann Coulter:

COULTER: There is no serious dialogue or engagement of ideas between the left and the right in this country.

FENN ...and that is because...

COULTER: There are no good Democrats.

So it's simple, really. Democrats = evil
