older Volvo experts?

My father-in-laws car: 88 Volvo 780

when accellerating from idle, the car gags and dies. The AC light then flashes on and off. Then it won't start and AC light goes out. After sitting for an hour or two it will start. This is an intermittant issue. It can go days without happening. Seems worse when it is cold (ie it isn't a "hot" problem that goes away when cold).

The dealer first thought bad gas. Then they replaced air mixture/injectors (? fil didn't know exactly what had been replaced...that is my guess), and then replaced the gas pump relay.

If it were a 911 I'd guess bad grounding strap or one of the CIS parts (WUR, etc) but I don't know anything about Volvos.

Anyone have an idea? The dealer is stumped. Also, does anyone know a good Volvo independent shop in Augusta GA or close to there?
