Hardly a fitting ending for quite possibly the best chess player ever. I hesitate to even use the word "player" he is by definition a "chess master". I have read his books and studied his games, simply the best ever. My heroes are all gone..............

He went and beat someone in chess......
but he also got paid .......
so then he became this big bad person for doing that ....
Then made a anti-US remark because he was still labeled a " Bad Guy "

Now there is going to be all sorts of American money devoted to bringing him in and the of course the prison space that could be taken up by a murderer or a drug dealler etc...

I still did not read the link, but I think you guys may be unaware of the "rest of the story," so to speak. Bobby Fischer believes that the holocaust was staged by the Jews for propaganda purposes. He believes the jews mass-murder christian children and use their blood in black magic ceremonies. He believes all chess games are fixed. Certainly he is sick. But get ready for this. Here are some quotes he broadcast on his radio show on September 11, 2001:

"This is all wonderful news. I applaud the act. The US and Israel have been slaughtering the Palenstinians, just slaughtering them for years. \Robbing them and slaughtering them. Nobody gave a ****. Now it's coming back to the US. **** the US. I want to see the US wiped out."

He envisioned some sort of coup d'etat in which the Jews would all be executed. His last words on this broadcast were "Death to the U.S."

He has suggested sending anthrax-laden letters to military bases.

Perhaps the links paints a sob story to elicit sympathy for Mr. Fischer. Be careful what you read.

I know he is "unhinged". I imagine brilliance at his level comes with a price. It's really a shame, at least we will always have the transcripts of his games to remember him by.

That being said, I don't think his political views should land him in prison. I wasn't aware that a private person could violate economic sanctions by winning a prize. Sounds a little fishy to me, we'll see how this turns out.

Yes, I have been to the Holy Land. My first thought when I saw the buildings burning on the morning of 9/11/01 was to assume that Israeli security experts, particularly airport ones, were already on their way to my country. Apparently, we have still not got enough brains to make that connection. And frankly, if you're asking me to support the collapse of the the nation of Israel to allow the Muslims of the Middle East to control the holiest sites in my faith, then the answer is not just "no," it's "hell no!" And if you've got some other idea for controlling access to that area, while at the same time dealing with a culture who believes their God wants them to fight an die against Jews, Christians or any other presence, other than Muslims, that might infect their holy land, well then lay out your plan for me, Don.

I think that no particular religious state should be controlling the cities that several religions claim as holy sites, including israel.

Radical jewish settlers and zionists have proven to want the death and destruction of their opponents as much as the radical muslims want the same for their enemies.

Unfortunately as long as the US sides with israel instead of promoting a solution that balances the needs of both sides the middle east is certain to remain a cauldron of hostility where the US is seen as a supporter of the one sided power struggle that is israeli-paslestinian conflict.

AND, If anyone believes that ALL Muslims believe in armed active Jihad or whatever, they are mistaken

I feel that Israel and the Palistinians should go through a transitional conflict without any US involvement and that no one NATION or Religion lay claim to the holy lands.

To me it's just dirt..
