CowBoy BeBop The Movie.
The Matrix running a close second.

Superman 2

Patton, hands down.

Other faves:
Fight Club
Se7en
The Game (David Fincher fan, obviously)
The Exorcist and Exorcist III
13th Warrior (must be seen on a TV w/ great black level and excellent surround)
Armageddon (saw it at the Uptown Theater in DC and was blown away ... yes, I know it's Michael Bay and "jingoistic" patriotism)
Hudson Hawk (yes, I'm serious)
Das Boot (Director's Cut ... I'm nowhere near fluent in German, but it's got to be watched in German, w/ subtitles).
My Fair Lady

I'm sure others will occur to me, but I'm only 1/2 way through my first cuppa joe.

EDIT -- for Worst Movie Ever, it's Natural Born Killers. I actually like Vanilla Sky :D

Some really good movies here. Glad to see some folks share my views. For example, I thought I was nearly the only big fan of On The Waterfront. Anyway, my alltime favorite movie is probably:

Casablanca

mikester 07-21-2004 06:34 AM

Big Wednesday

kach22i 07-21-2004 06:38 AM

GLADIATOR.

The boxing movie without Russel Crow.

James Marshall and Cuba Gooding Jr. are in it (1992).

It's not so much about boxing as it is about fighting your way out of a poor neighborhood that you don't quite fit into.

Hudson Hawk was awesome....

The Fifth Element was a great movie too. Though I don't think a lot of people appreciated it for what it really was.

Shichinin no Samurai (The Seven Samurai) --> The Magnificent Seven --> A Bug's Life
Yojimbo --> A Fistful of Dollars --> Last Man Standing

Kurosawa was a genius.

Showgirls

BGCarrera32 07-21-2004 07:32 AM

Top Gun
Ronin
Office Space
Le Mans

CJ, I'm going to contest that Evil Dead 2 isn't horror, and neither is SW:ESB science fiction.

More like comedy (or parody) and fantasy, if you ask me.

the Fifth Element was brilliant. it was the quintessential example of a director pulling out all the stops. some folks just didn't get it

Oh Brother was incredible as well

Crap. I blanked on Ronin -- awesome movie and my favorite car chase scenes and DeNiro performance.

Fifth Element was great too. I've seen that dozens of times, and not just because of Milla Jovovich.
