I gladly pay taxes!
Millenium Park in Chicago just opened. It's large, it's beautiful, it has fantastic buildings and artworks. People love it, children play in the fountains, adults listen to music, teenagers smooch. It's just an incredible enrichment of an already beautiful city.
It cost roughly half a billion dollars. Half of that was privately raised. The rest comes from our tax dollars. Well spent, I say. No private initiative could have pulled something like this off. And it's open to everybody. My tax dollars at work--or rather at play. I know some of you think taxes are the devil incarnate. I hate paying them too. But something like this park reconciles me with the idea. We put our money together--those with lot more, those with little (me) less-- and we're a community. If we could next agree on a plan to do something similar with our schools, I'd happily pay a few dollars more...

Your wrong about the private sector pulling something like that off. Half a Billiion is peanuts.....every new LV mega Hotel costs at least as much.....as a matter of fact at half a Billion it would be a low rent project....opulence on a grand scale fit for the Caesars for todays everyman is what LV is....all designed like a carnivel to part the rubes from their money.
BTW the device of choich is called a slot machine aka one armed bandit...... Didja know that whether or not you are a winner on a pull of the lever of a slot is determined instantly by a random generator computer chip and that the reels that show that third seven that just missed the big payoff is just to entice you to pull the lever again.....Man have they got U comin and goin... Who needs taxes with a slot machine?

Not only that, but there is no proof, despite the myriad attempts, that higher taxation does anything but subjugate the productive and encourage the indolent's indolence. If you remember, Bill Clinton saw the economy smoking during his administration, in fact he said it was "overheating"....His response to slowing down the smoking economy was to raise taxes...This brought about the Clinton recession...Just like when Bush senior raised taxes, the economy faltered. People don't realize the financial burden of funding and the suppression of financial value that the Cold War caused.... Which was relieved by it's end ... and which caused the boom of the nineties....now we are again faced with a world in conflict or remergence of that perception...so values will once again be under pressure.

Wait til they build something you don't like/want and see if you are still as happy to pay those taxes.....For example, how about a Mt. Rushmore sized, multi-million dollar state of Ronald Reagan? Every city needs one.

No. It is not that difficult to show no taxable income if you haven't any.
