Dr. Strangelove - whatta hoot!
Sorry, just had to get this off my chest - I just picked up the DVD and watched it for the first time in years. Man, maybe I'm "simple", but that's just gotta be one of the best flicks ever.
see it again, for the first time!

probably the best comedy of all time. brilliant acting and directing. the scene with (I think it was) Sellers trying to get a soda (or whatever) out of the machine with bullets ripping up the place was absolutely outstanding

Keenan Wynn was talked into shooting the Coca-Cola machine by Peter Sellers so that they could get enough change to make a 'trunk call' to the 'President of these United States".
Keenan Wynn's response was something on the order of 'Only a Limey pervert would dare steal from the Coca-Cola company'. There were sooooo many classic lines in that movie. Slim Pickens, as the Buff-52 Aircraft Commander, going thru the emergency kits on the way to the bomb run, discovers a pair of womens' nylons, chocolates, condoms and rubles along with extra ammo for the service .45 caliber sidearm. Says.. "We could sure as heck have good time tonight if we find the right sorta enemy..."

I had forgotten another funny. Every time there is a shadow cast on the ground by the B-52, the shadow is of a B-17.
George C. Scott takes a phone call while the fate of the world is being debated in the 'war room'. The call is from his female secretary, who is anxiously waiting for him to return shortly (as promised) to his quarters. His reply is that he is 'kinda busy at the moment. But Shug, you just make yourself comfortable there, and Uncle Bucky will be there before you can say "BLAST OFF!" By the Way, Shug, did you say all of your prayers tonight? Good girl....

Not to overstate - but every one of the actors had watershed roles in this piece (particularily Scott - he's brilliant here) - with the possible exception of Sellers (it would be hard to eclipse his "The Party" or "Being There" portrayals, let alone his Panther stuff).
But Wynn is simply sublime. The routine with the pop machine is genius. Pickens/Scott own this movie. Great, now I've got that tune stuck in my head. The one that plays whenever they cut to the B-52... What's the name of that little ditty?

It's been a while since I've seen it. Isn't the tune "when Johnny goes marching off to war?' From the civil war era?

Even the full title of the movie is great.
Dr. Strangelove. Or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the Bomb. Peter Sellers having three parts in the movie. Dr. Strangelove ( a truely Kissinger-esque character), The President, and the British Officer on loan to the Air Force.

And we haven't even started talking about the program to breed prodigiously!

That's it. But don't forget the overdub of "Try a little tenderness" to the opening credits. Classic tune to watch as a B52 refuels mid-air. The whole movie is chock full of imagery that makes me chuckle.

One of my all time favorites. Hey does anyone else's wife hate this movie as much as mine?
About the breeding part - wasn't it Peter Sellers that was busting out the slide rule to calculate the number of females per male needed to repopulate the earth? Something also about choosing the girls by physical "qualties". My wife's response "you wish".

This is one of those movies that, in any woman's mind, is the antithesis of a 'chick flick.'
Meaning a well done comedy and war flick rolled into one. Another on that list, John Belushi and Steven Spielbergs' '1941.'
