F1: Hockenheim

Schmacher domination.

I just wanted to see what you guys thought about Rakkonen's rear wing failure. I never would have expected a car to lose such control with a loss of a rear wing. That was incredible. I immediately thought..."I wonder if a duck tail would look good on my pcar..."

Hey Philip,

The rear wing generates something like 1500 pounds of downforce. Not sure of the actual number. These rear wing failures seem to happen once a year or so. Pretty spectacular! M's domination was total, that's for sure. Good to see Button in 2nd place.

Yeah, I remember seeing them break off in the past, pretty amazing...1500lbs...

To duck or not to duck...

I think I fell asleep not too long after the wing failure . . . felt like it, anyway. What a boring race. Good for Button, though.

it wasn't completely boring. There were some pretty amazing laps where Sato, Webber and Trulli were doing some serious dicing.

What's so boring about a field of the most technological advanced cars screaming around a badass race track at speeds in the 150-200 mph range? :D

I hear what you're saying though, it's almost like, "he who gets in front first, stays in front until the end".

I had missed the German GPs for the past two years and had not seen the abbreviated track configuration. I was impressed with the designer's work in creating a section of track with more than one "line". The sort of racing between Sato, Webber & Truli as well as the multi lap battle between Button & Alonso reminded me why I watch F1. To be able to take an F1 car and drive it on the edge like that, lap after lap, (one handed on the high-speed bits!) puts me in awe of some of these people we refer to as human beings. Even the slowest guy out there is an order of magnitude more talented than most (if not all ) of us.

Hockenheim is all about when to break after a couple of full-throttle straits.
Boring like a 1/4 mile'r without consistent in-car-cameras.

The German Grand Prix was one of the better races this year and ceratainly last year. For those that didn't notice some of the closest racing in many events, there's NASCAR. You can't help but notice.

And then there's opera and Garth Brooks................ ;)
