wedding toast

i will be in a wedding party this weekend as a groomsman, i know, i know, you can dress him up but can you really take him anywhere you hope to impress? my lack of civility is another topic, for another thread, for another time....

the wedding party has been positioned by height, and believe it or not there are actually TWO guys in the party shorter than me! that being said this guy is a life long friend that i still see quite often, his wife to be is a bit of a stranger to us. there will be the bestman, then the two vertically challenged guys go, so im 3rd to toast the couple. i will have had a few by then to loosen the mind, and tie a bit, but any suggestions for toast material?

i will be hoping to get some suggestions by high noon pacific time when i split for the day, so lets help a fellow pelican out here.

and yes i did draw one of the hotter chicks in the wedding party, celebrity she most resembles? i will noodle that through and repost before departure.

Where is it customary for ALL the groomsmen to toast the couple? At every wedding I've attended, the best man is the only groomsman to make a formal toast. Others include father of the bride, in one case brother of the bride.

Just tell everyone to look at the interesting picture attached to the underside of their chair ...

A B&W pic of the groom and you beside your SC should get some laughs.

A pic of you and the bride in your SC might go over like a fart in church!

I would like to offer a toast to (bride's name) and (groom's name): Because today is the first of many days of married life, I would like us to raise our glasses to this wish (wait for everyone to raise their glasses, then deliver the coup de grace) That today, of all the days of their married life, they might love each other....the least. Cheers.

(pause for gratuitous servicing by hot chicks)

I was recently at a wedding where the the following two toasts were given after more ribald introductions:

It has occured to me that when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible. To John and Jane, that day is today. All the best and cheers.

After meeting John's fiance/wife Jane for the first time, it was clear to me that John's most brilliant achievement was his ability to be able to persuade Jame to marry him! To the Bride and Groom. (A twist on a Churchill quote.)

The key to most successful toasts is to enter thanking the parents of the birde and exit with a compliment to the couple...the middle is up for grabs.

I recently had to give a toast for my little brother, and I didn't know most of the bride's guests. It was a huge wedding, about 400 people. So I was third in line to go (Bride's father, then my father, then me), and damned if my dad didn't use all my material!

Anyway, at least at the Irish weddings I go to, everyone is pretty well lubricated by then and it doesn't really matter what you say as long as it's from the heart. Everyone is looking at the bride, not you. You could say anything. Well, almost anything. Tell a nice story about you and your friend. Make it about 60 seconds long, then raise your glass and get out of there.

Good luck!

Sure, have fun. Mention sheep--the bride's family loves livestock references.

The leaves may kiss the tree goodbye

A bee may kiss a butterfly

The sparkling wine may kiss the glass

And you, my friends, long life and happiness
