Ok. You've invented a time machine...

You can travel and return with no lost time from this life. Would you go to the past or the future? What time? Why?

Mark Wilson 07-27-2004 01:27 PM

Future. I've got a good run behind me. I want to see what it is in 100 years.

widebody911 07-27-2004 01:30 PM

I'd go back to the future.

Bill Douglas 07-27-2004 01:40 PM

Future. Pick a few real estate trends, new inventions, latest boob jobs... the list goes on.

vash 07-27-2004 01:52 PM

forward, i dont want to eff up the past....again. damn, there is that dinosaur thing.....

tabs 07-27-2004 02:10 PM

Hey the past, with the knowledge I have now I could buy up all the RS's and put them in a garage in Arizona, so when I come back I can just go over and pick them up....Yeah BABY

Also I would go into the future to scope things out....so that when I came back I could invest in the next Microsoft...Double Yeah Baby....

Now the question becomes how far into the future would you go......1B years 20B years....At some point on this time journey you just might discover that you cease to exist...you've gone too far, over the edge so to speak...to the point where time stops...or would it be like slamming into a wall....

I personally would enjoy going back and being an observer to see how things really went down...like at Custers Last Stand, that would be cool ....

nostatic 07-27-2004 02:16 PM

can I go back and bang my mom? I've got to get this edipus thing worked out...

BlueSkyJaunte 07-27-2004 02:18 PM

Sorry son...I mean, Todd....I already did that. :D

dd74 07-27-2004 02:29 PM

Hmmm...bangin' your own mom...so what would you create? A mini-me? Dunno...

I'll take the future. The past has been done. No adventure there. I want to go far forward in time, hopefully a few years after the human race has completely obliterated itself so no one will bother me.

Hugh R 07-27-2004 02:32 PM

I'd go back and try and talk my dumb a$$ 17 year old self to quit hanging around two "Friends" that afforded me the opportunity to make some choices (bad) that fundamentally altered my formative young life, and probably completely changed where I might have gone in life. Although all things considered, I came out pretty good 33 years later.

tabs 07-27-2004 02:39 PM

WOW 33 years in Prison Hugh...that is amazing...

tabs 07-27-2004 02:43 PM

Oh we're talking about fking...hmmm the list would be endless starting with Cleopatra....and moving forward....

Adam 07-27-2004 03:13 PM

Yup, I'd go back. I'd do a little "speculating" to earn some play money then travel around the world in a time without terror alerts and electronic security. Simple pleasures etc.

I'd go way back, as Tabs mentioned. Not necessarily disasters or destruction, but I'd have to say that I'd be curious to:

1) Visit the former Soviet Russia
2) Sign up to fly for the RAF during the Battle of Britain
3) Attend a few Le Mans races in the late '60s
4) Be there when the Apollo rockets launch
5) Watch the inauguration of President Washington
6) Be in Paris when DeGault surrendered

An endless list of possibilities...

Superman 07-27-2004 03:37 PM

that's a tough one. The future could be interesting in terms of investment opportunities, but then so would the past. And I personally think that one of God's very nicest gifts to us is the inability to see the future.

So, I'd go past. I'd perform exploratory drilling operations on several HS cheerleaders that I only assumed were untouchable. Not so, it turns out. Invest in Microsoft and then return.

on-ramp 07-27-2004 03:51 PM

you can't go back in time. that's impossible. you know why?

because it's already happened.. it's gone.

my attorneys will be contacting you about a lump sum payout for back child support :p

silver912e 07-27-2004 04:29 PM

Think I would park myself on Dealey Plaza in Dallas on Nov. 22nd 1963 with a video camera pointed in each direction and see what the hell really happened there.

RickM 07-28-2004 07:17 AM

Past. To observe the different branches of human-like primates. Some most likely short lived in the broader scheme of things.

I'd also like to explore the prehistoric earth. Can I bring a 4x4?

RickC 07-28-2004 07:52 AM

Wow, light bulb moment.

Up until right now, I would always have said the past in a heartbeat. But today, right before I took the poll, I had to fire an employee at my company for a dishonest thing they shouldn't have done, and now I realize that I'm very concerned about the lives of my children, and suddenly curious to see if there's anything I can do to improve their characters and their futures that I'm not doing. So if I have to choose one or the other - the future it is......

pbs911 07-28-2004 08:21 AM

Aside from going to the future to pick the winning lotto numbers for the next 5 years, I would go back in time and hang with the most influencial individual to ever walk on earth - Jesus. Not that I'm a religious person, been to church about 10 times in the past 15 years, but I would like to know.
