Lance rocks, and so does his team:

He'll give it up in the flats, but I think he'll climb his way to a 6th. A great last hurrah for US Postal.

turbo -- I meant 6th consecutive victory. Which will be a record streak.

He's wearing the yellow now, but he's not a sprinter and will lose the yellow over the flat stages (it's part of his plan and the yellow jersey will probably change hands a few times).

At the end of the day, Lance will wear the yellow when it matters most. He will out-climb his opponents as he's done the past 5 years.

This is one of my favorite moments in sports.
2001. The base of the Alpe d'Huez. Lance has been sandbagging and everyone -- EVERYONE -- "knew" he didn't have it in him to win. Many of the US Postal Team have fallen away, burning themselves to keep Lance in the hunt with Ullrich and Telekom. Ullrich's got a couple of mandarins still with him; Lance is alone.

Just as we get to the real steep of Alpe d'Huez, a legendary hill, Lance dances up on the pedals, shoots The Look back to Ullrich and just absolutely freaking rolls him; streaking up the mountain and effectively cementing another TdF victory.

It was truly awesome to behold.

OK, for a second I thought you were taking hits from the bong

53km/hr pace = 33mph. I doubt many guys on this forum could even reach 33mph, much less do it for 70 minutes. Friggin' incredible.

If Ulrich was some slouch, this would be no feat, but Lance is just THE man. A man with a resting heartrate in the 30s is no mere mortal.

Oi! Todd!! You almost b*****d!

From now on, don't make subjects like "Lance in Yellow"! They race in the middle of the night NZ time, and I try to media blackout myself so I can watch the highlights which are on at night NZ time (about midnight your time).

Fortunately for you, the freakin' radio already told me this morning and, in any case, the TTT was almost a forgone conlcusion.

So please, for the love of God, head them up "Tour de France Team Time Trial (spoiler)"

Lance in Yellow is very cool.
The TTT was really somthing to watch the rain was a factor, I think, and left many teams in disarray.

Vash.. yes Lance does get the big prize but most of the time the winner gives the money to the team for their support.

Cam, it's a loooong race. You know it doesn't mean much of anything other than the psychological territory USPS gains from the team TT victory.

But I'll be more careful next time

While the Ulrich moment was great, I have to say that the most intense stage I ever watched was 15 from last year where Lance fell (got hooked on a spectator's musette), got up, almost fell again, then proceeded to catch and pass everyone.

Lance gives out the "Lance Bonus" to team riders if he wins. Last year I believe it was $50,000 each. That is on top of their normal salary and the USP bonus for winning.

You absolutely can't even compete w/o a good team. I remember when Bernard Hinout (sp) was about at the end of his career. Greg Lemond was on his team and it was determined that Lemond would be the winner that year and Hinout would support. At the last minute Hinout decided he wanted one more tour win and Lemond had to support even though Greg was the better rider. Greg should have had five wins himself save for giving it up to Hinout and then getting himself shot.

Lance Armstrong is a freak.

Some challenging comments from Greg LeMond on EPO. Truth or sour grapes?

Personally, I think most professional cyclists, especially in European squads, are doping in one way or another. I don't think it detracts from the sport at all, it's just the way it is.

Just a footnote. There is a world famous pulmonary function lab in Texas. Many years ago, Lance Armstrong recorded the greastest FIO2 (a measure of lung capacity) ever documented by the center. The record still stands.

I thought Miguel Indurain held that record? Or was it for lowest resting heartbeat?

A couple of years back I was working with Toby Henderson (BMX and MTB) who was being inducted into the Bicycling Hall of Fame by Greg Lemond. He said they partied pretty hard. His comment was that GL looked like he was living life as a drunken baffoon now days. As far as sour grapes, yep. Is Lance clean? He hasnt tested positive for anything on the banned list. He has been tested more than GL was tested. Is he taking a performance enhancing product?, well they all do, vitamins, cytomax, caffine and a whole bunch of other stuff is used to enhance performance and is acceptible to certian levels. If he is doing somthing, it is not on the banned list and is therefor legal.

I think Pepin, the Cuban freediver has the lowest pulse. Lance's FIO2 mark is the best recorded at the lab in Texas. Probably not a world record.
