This is the kind of stuff Moore pulled in F911

Does this type of fabrication make you doubt any of the other "facts" in the movie? It sure should. The guys got no shame.

NEW YORK The Pantagraph newspaper in Bloomington, Ill. has sent a letter to Michael Moore, drafted by its lawyer, citing him for copyright infringement, admonishing him for his "unauthorized...misleading" use of the paper in his film "Fahrenheit 9/11," and asking for an apology.

It is also seeking compensatory damages of exactly one dollar.

"While we are highly flattered to be included in the movie," said the newspaper's President and Publisher Henry Bird, "we are a bit disturbed that our pages were misrepresented."

Early in the movie, according to the paper, a large headline appears in the film, purporting to be from a Dec. 19, 2001 edition of the paper, and reading "Latest Florida recount shows Gore won election." The paper contends that the headline actually appeared on Dec. 5, 2001, in much smaller type, and above a letter to the editor, hardly a factual news story or editorial.

The letter to Moore from the paper calls this a "misrepresentation of facts." The newspaper said it had been unsuccessful in attempts to reach Moore through his film company, Lion's Gate, by phone and email.

"In an instance that The Pantagraph prints material in which there is a mistake it is corrected," the letter to Moore reads. "It is our hope that you would adhere to the same high ethical standard."

Moore could not be reached for comment.

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!

lendaddy 07-31-2004 07:18 PM

Sarcasm?

ronin 07-31-2004 07:23 PM

doesn't surprise me. F 911 was nothing more than a long-winded commercial designed to pull at the heartstrings of the (politically) uneducated and inattentive. I bet that stuff is par for the course

it surely must have been. because if not, one must then believe that it was obviously the inability to form a cogent response. and we wouldn't want to think that now, would we? ;)

Overpaid Slacker here, checking in from wonderful Long Beach...

To anyone that cared to read, there were dozens of articles refuting MM's lies in F911 shortly after the release of his propagand....er movie. Not from nutcase/crackpots, but from people that took Moore's premises (and I use that term in the most generous possible sense, strictly without intending damage to the term) and put them into context, demonstrating BRD they were lies if not false and misleading, deliberately used in a materially deceitful context, without facts necessary to render such information in a manner which the audience could make a considered judgment.

Personally, this disgusts me more than outright lies, because he KNOWS he's doing it and must believe his audience is stupid/gullible enough to be taken in.

"Unbelievable" as in "I am not surprised".

Does that clarify things? His is a propaganda piece; full of innuendo and half truths (but a half truth, by definition may have limited merit)

I would, however, not give it sufficient credibility to affect my votes one way or another.

Apologies will be graciously accepted........

lendaddy 08-01-2004 11:24 AM

Since I simply asked if it was sarcasm(hence the ?) I make no apology. You clarified, end of story.

techweenie 08-01-2004 12:47 PM

Wow. He used an editorial headline as if it were a news headline?

Well, that discredits the entire movie!

Same thing with the bank rifle giveaway in 'Columbine...' You could hold & inspect the rifle you got for opening an account, but you didn't get the physical rifle -- you got a certificate to get the rifle. So Moore (appearing to be) striding out of the bank brandishing a rifle was an exaggeration, while the basic facts were never in dispute. This relatively small spin on an otherwise accurate segment got a lot of fucus, but the point was still well made. Where else in the world would you get a free rifle for opening a savings account?

lendaddy 08-01-2004 01:12 PM

Get real! The guy changed the date and made it appear that the paper had run a story showing that Gore would have won a recount (pssst they didn't, and he wouldn't have) and you dont see the big deal?? The EXACT opposite being true doesn't bother you and only represents "relatively small spin" to you? Me thinks your trying too hard here.

I haven't seen the movie, but no doubt it falls into the same category as Stone's JFK. Great entertainment, and fodder for the right audience member, but really just a fictional fabrication designed to sway the general conscience.

tabs 08-01-2004 02:19 PM

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was entertaining...

I went to see the movie this week and found it to be well BORING....I dozed off in the middle of it and couldn't wait for it to end....

Folks Michael Moorer is just a Pimp for the Democrats...He has no real credibility...

motion 08-01-2004 02:43 PM

Yeah, I dozed off 20 minutes into Columbine, too. What a load of over-hyped crap.

ronin 08-01-2004 03:40 PM

hmmm. can't wait for them to come out on video for those long bouts with insomnia
