John Kerrys Staff Destroys Womans Sign
I guess he doesnt like Free Speech
Not long after, Porter made her way to an area where Kerry was shaking hands with a large group of people. She eventually found herself exactly where she hoped she would be -- a few feet away from the man some hope will be the next president. She held up her sign. "Then it happened," Porter explains. "He reached up to shake a hand in the back and his eyes went up to my sign. He read it and then he looked into the crowd to see who was holding it -- and he looked me directly in the eyes." "I hope he saw my pain. I was not angry, just pleading with him to understand. You could see the shock and surprise on his face," Porter said. But within seconds, a Kerry campaign staff member approached Porter and grabbed her sign. "You can't have that sign here," the Kerry staffer said. The sign tore and Porter let go. After he had possession of it, the Kerry staffer "tore it to pieces" and walked away. "He wouldn't even let me have the pieces," Porter said. http://michnews.com/artman/publish/article_4542.shtml |

She should have been in the 'free speech zone' (which is most likely a non-visable fenced in area within a mile of the event). Didn't you know that already.

I like your sarcasm, but does this change the fact that the staff member is an *********?

Not true, when I saw Bush speak Friday the protesters were allowed everywhere except on the grounds. There was no fence at all. Maybe that's a Kerry thing?

Thorough counseling should be a part of every planned abortion. It is an important decision to make, but at least there is an option for a woman to decide. Should we infer that this woman advocated no abortions under any circumstance? Not sure.

For lefties it's acceptable to kill an unborn human.
Unacceptable is showing pictures of them doing it. free speech means we're forced to fund the Endowment of the Arts's 'artistic' photograph of a crucifix in a jar of urine, but if you express your right to oppose it you're an uncultured biggot.

Bryan..
I do in essence agree that abortion, unless there are extreme problems, should not be an "elective" process. I also think that, once the child is born, some plan should be in place to make sure that child is not the victim of parental abuse, poverty, a lousy educational system and so on. So, do you think that those who are totally against abortion would volunteer to each adopt or at least sponsor one of these unwanted children and rear them? Just an idea......

I went to Ocean City a couple years ago. Major traffic jam getting in (only 2 roads). Some group of f---ers had those signs up. I call it visual terrorism. There was no way to look away. I don't have any children, but what if I did ad they saw that and it gave them night mares? It pissed me off so bad, I almost went back and started some s---. Part of selling your message is proper packaging.

ANd that, in a nutshell, is the problem. You cannot do half of a project and declare it accomplished.
(oops..that doesn't sound right, does it?)

Wow, lots of good stuff here. Some thoughts...
1 - Defending Kerry: a little out of character for me, but ubiquity does it best with his highlights. It isn't necessarily Kerry who doesn't support free speech, but rather his supporters/staff. That's not to say that Kerry does support dissenting opinions, merely that this article does not show that Kerry does not support free speech. 2 - I'm not so much into abortion, think it's generally a bad idea. But like most normal sane people, I think that posting pictures of aborted fetuses (fetii?) in public places is a bit over-the-top. Rule of Thumb: Any form of free speech that requires a police escort is probably across the line. 3 - Adoption -- I know a couple right now who's desperately trying to adopt, and can't, because there simply aren't enough available babies. I know another family who's adopted a whole bunch of kids, many from "bad backgrounds." He drives a full-sized van full of kids, only 2 of which are biologically his. Oh, and both families are pro-life Christians, just for the data point.

Good point, Thom -- though the guy with the full-sized van has adopted several "full-grown" ones, too. By the time they're 6 or 8 they're a bit more challenging to deal with, but often easier to come by. One of my best friends growing up was adopted when he was 4 or 5, too. It happens, but for obvious reasons it's less common.
