in a standard shift car what is the best way to get off at a stop light without burning out your clutch by riding it

You gotta be quick...you just unzip your pant...ohhh...never mind

kill the motor, and re-start it while in 1st gear? A once was a buddy of mine did that with his 951 when the slave went south, poor, poor car. I hope nobody on this list is the current owner.:(

Mulholland, thats good. Seriously, don't ride the clutch otherwise you will smell the burning clutch. Watch the other light changing so you are ready to go but if you are the first one through the intersection going fast at the moment the light changes, look both directions and be careful because someone could run a red light and say goodbye to you and your Porsche.

1. Put car in neutral - hold on the brakes.
2. Watch for the light to turn yellow going the other direction (anticipating your green) or the cars in front of you to start moving.
3. Press in the clutch - put the car in 1st gear.
4. Release brakes, slowly let out the clutch while giving a bit of gas.
Speed up step #4 if you're pointing uphill.

All standard cars have different clutch/RPM feels and preferences - you'll figure out what your car likes. No reason to ever ride the clutch. If you can't master this in 1-2 days of normal driving, buy/trade in for an automatic.
