The way to get Kerry

The way to get Kerry is to hit him on throwing away his medals....

Mr Kerry it is one thing for you to be oposed to the war (vietnam) and your service therein.. but to reject the GRATITUDE your country showed you in bestowing medals on you for your service...shame on you.

Very simple...makes him seem he is rejecting America, and he can't come out and say he was a Baby killer now can he...

The country (i.e. the public) did not issue the medals and ribbons..In fact, the country was pretty well split (like now) over the "war". The military awarded the medals.

Suppose some organization you did not agree with gave you an endorsement. Would you keep that endorsement or ultimately reject it?

Not taking sides here. It is just difficult for ANYONE to judge the actions of another person without sharing some of that individual's experiences.

I said it before and I will repeat it. Although my service time was spent prowling the Atlantic coast for drug runners, stupid civilian sailors, etc, I had a number of buddies that went to Nam. Some came home the hard way (dead) and some came home survivors and many of those were barely functional. They were NEVER the same. I cannot imagine what they saw or experienced. Words are a poor substitute for experience; an experience I was lucky not to have shared. To this day, these guys are in my prayers, no matter where they be.

I will not judge the motives of another. I may not agree with their behavior, but I do not know all the circumstances. Trying to second guess is like the five blind men trying to describe an elephant with a single touch each.

The people are represented by the government of the USA....we elect officals who then direct the government employees as what to do... There for when a soldier is awarded a medal it is as if it came from the people...because thats who the indivdaul is serving

As MM points the finger at GW so can someone point the finger at Kerry....and I'm just suggesting a very effective way of doing it...

Did he apply for the very medals he threw away?

I can only think of one reason why someone would do that...

I think we would agree in general that the government does a LOT of things that the people, if polled, might not agree with......

And, you CAN be awarded something that you really do not want, like a speeding citation......

Actually, Bryan, he KEPT the medals he applied for. The ones he threw away belonged to somebody else!

As the only officer on a small boat, he would have been writing the "after action" reports himself....and effectively writing up his own medals.

Too bad for him that the swift boats fought as groups and all the officers in charge of the other boats refute his stories.

No inference, that was the testimony of all the other officers that served with him. Not one, but all!

It is pretty simple. He is in charge of his boat-supervises his sailors- and writes reports regarding his sailors and their actions while other officers are in charge of their boats and do the same.

At the same time, the boats typically do not go out alone, but are in groups...other boats are very close (fighting in a river, not the ocean)similar to a wingman in formation flying (e.g. topgun) that gives the other officers an even better vantage point to view Kerry and his boat's actions than even some on his boat. Especially since the enlisted soldiers on board kerry's boat may not even know the orders oir strategy for a specific action.

The other (approximately equally ranked officers) would not be privy to reports written by Kerry..and if they were, it would have taken longer than the few days between Kerry writing himself up and his departing to return home and dishonor them.
