Need the opinion of the masses
While installing a used windshield for a regular customer it cracks. Should I refund his purchase price for the glass, offer a in house credit, or not be responsible for used glass?
Now to keep things in proper perspective this is someone who I do a lot of small jobs(as in my kid aint going to college off his dime) for. No matter what the outcome he most likely won't be laying in wait ready to throw bricks at me, or will we end up in front of Judge Judy over it. I'm just looking for the "moral" thing to do. |
Ask him what he thinks would be fair/reasonable.

I know: you'd rather end up behind Judge Judy, right?

And in the future tell people that you are not responsible for used glass cracking......,?
But wouldn't that include every "glass-out" paint job? |
I know that the policy of any window outfit is that if they break it they buy it.
Unless you can show that there is a defect with the window or gasket I think you should eat it. When I went to have my front windshield replaced by a PPG shop the installer broke the attenna attachment off resulting in his shop having to eat the $500+ cost of the windshield. Should it be any different if the windshield is used instead of new? |
