Smokey and the Bandit II

I can't believe how much fun Smokey and the Bandit is...

I'm watching #2 right now - frickin classic.

That car is so cool.

Man, I wish the Duke's of hazard was on.

lol. I consider the Trans Am (black, t-tops, cheesy firebird on hood) a guilty pleasure of mine. didn't care much for the Dukes though

Dukes of Hazzard was super popular where I grew up. I went to school with two brothers named Bo and Luke.

I always called that 'THE FLAMING CHICKEN.' http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...amingdevil.gif My Trans-Am friends didn't appreciate that too much...

That said, I LOVED that car as a kid. Almost got a Camaro Type LT as my first car. :D

Z-man, the bird hood decal is popularly known as the "Screaming Chicken"--even with the F-body crowd.

Z-man 08-11-2004 06:57 AM

Eric - true - screaming chicken.

'Must be getting old

Yeah, I eventually had to have a Trans Am, but I got one of the "1970-1/2" versions -- free of screaming chickens.

After a few weeks of driving it, I found it a bloated, rattling POS. But it looked cool. Traded it straight across for a '65 GTO convertible and never looked back.

My wife calls thunderbirds "thunderchickens" first time I heard that I laughed my a$$ off.

ronin 08-11-2004 09:23 AM

hehe, we called them thunderturds

z-man: I did buy a brand spanking new Z28 back in '86 as my second car. loved every minute of it. had my lunch handed to me when I decided to chase a pack of Ferraris up 101 south of Eureka. man, that thing pushed like a plough. it was fun as hell though

oh, and my first car? a baby blue 76 Ford Pinto two door coupe (not the hatch) with the 171 V6http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/shake.gif

76 Ford Pinto - Got a Picture? It's got to got to be a classic now

ronin 08-11-2004 10:47 AM

sorry, no pics. (I'll ask momma, maybe she kept one) don't laugh, but it actually was a pretty interesting car. the V6 wasn't short on power and the car had the three speed auto as well. IIRC the motor was actually developed by Ford in Germany (or somewhere else in Europe - can't remember) for the euro market and was brought to the US in small numbers

here's the best I could find. mine didn't have the landau top and the paint was a much lighter shade of blue, but other than that it was nearly identical

If U boyz have any questions about the Pontiac Tran Am ask our very own Jeff Smith aka Schmidt...he is very fond of the 73 Pontiac Trans Am with Big Bird painted on the hood....and can be considered to be an authority....Now if I could only find that link...
