Fake Porsche Art on Ebay

I just found this painting on Ebay of a 73 911 painting. It is original and painted in oil. ... Funny thing is I painted this painting and it's painted in acrylic and I don't live in China. I sold it to a person in Texas.

Here is the ebay item
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260151766176

Sort of weird ... I placed a bid on it!

Ben

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Wonder how they got a copy to forge?

Ben

This is fairly amusing - but probably not for you!!!!

Of course this painting offered on ebay is an original !!! an original copy that is - lol

I think I'd be proud if someone wanted to copy something I painted (of course I can't paint) , I would feel that I must have done a pretty good job if someone thought it was good enough to copy!

I hope you win the auction, at least you can then see how good the copy is.

Matt

Just emailed the seller asking who the artist was. Will let you know if he replies.

I do think it's sort of funny, but at the same time it really stinks. What I think they do is copy these prints from online, scan them, print them on canvas and then put some sort of varnish or something (for texture) over them to make it look like paint.

And I emailed the seller asking who the artist is, but I haven't heard back yet.

I also think they should have picked a nicer painting of mine because that one is not really one of my better ones.

Maybe you should contact evilbay and tell them what is going on. I know they are usually not much help but blatant forgery might get their attention.

Yeah, Ebay has this form I'm filling out called a Notice of Claimed Infringement, I'll see how that goes.

Ben,
You do beautiful work! If I saw that painting on eBay, it would be one that I would certainly bid on.

Ben, Good luck resolving this issue. I used to paint for a living. Now I have an opportunity to start painting again and also get my work in front of some very well known race car drivers (both past and present). The paintings will be of them in their racecar, etc. It really stinks someone can reproduce your artwork so easily.

Nice paintings by the way!

If you sold the painting originally, does it mean you also sold the rights for reproduction? Or do reproduction rights stay with the artist?

if you already sold it doesn't that mean you also sold the rights to it?
this thought is based on if in fact the person in china bought the original painting from the guy in texas or another owner........

You do not sell the rights when you sell the painting. There was a landmark case where the artist came back 5-10 years later to change a painting sold to a wealthy patron. The artist never felt that the painting was complete and won the right to alter the artwork as he saw fit.
