Purpose of a Turn Signal
What is the purpose of a turn signal?
|
When the ignition is off, you can flip the turn signal switch to turn the parking lights on for one side of the car only.
|
In non-lane change situations, it gives other drivers and indication that you will be slowing down to a near stop (if not in a Porsche) and then turning. Unless you live in NC, where you come to a complete stop and then signal and turn.
|
it is something you leave flashing for miles.

Never used within San Francisco city limits. Not even when making abrupt right hand turn from far left lane.
I've lived all over the U.S. Drivers in Boston are hyper-aggressive. Drivers in San Francisco are just plain stupid. |
Definitely #3!
I hate it when people hang out in my blind spots. To cure this and to get people moved to a safer location (for me) I like to hit the signal. People tend to do one of two things...back off (rarely) or close up the gap in front of themselves...cutting me out of my "merge" Either way, they move to a location where I prefer them to be. ;) Randy |
I used to use my turn signals all the time, though mostly randomly, because I couldn't figure out what they were supposed to mean. Then I ran out of turn signal fluid, and I can't find any more at the local auto parts store, so I don't signal any more.

A turn signal is an indicator signal, not a request light.
