For those who do not know about the Dream Cruise about 50,000 collector cars of all shapes and sizes cruise on SAT up and down a 4 lane 15 miles North and South bound Woodward avenue and about 1.5 million people watch. all free. While I think Ford did a great job on this car, a GT3 comes very close to surpassing it in performance in pretty much all categories (according to some data I read in Motor Trend) for quite a bit less money.
How many times can it be said that a Porsche has the same performance as a Ford for less money? Usually, people are trying to argue just the opposite. Mike

thing that bugs me about the ford GT is that it's basically a replica with some modern age gizmo's...so besides the fact that it's an expensive replica... it's not even a correct one...
nice car, don't get me wrong, but it's not the real thing just a cheap way to recatch former glory without designing something new....unlike Shelby who made the Gr1 which does look like a unique design, and it does look stunning ( maybe not what i would buy myself, but still a beautifull car)... and no , a GT3 doesn't come close to a Ford GT when it comes to performance... on Top Gear, on the same track , same driver the Ford was a good 5.7 seconds faster, now that might not be scientific, but the Stig does go all the way in trying to get the fastest lap out of every car presented to him, and he sure as hell knows how to drive.. this ain't a journalist... and 5.7 seconds on such a short track , is by no means a glitch , or GT3 coming close to outperforming the Ford GT.... 1st Porsche Carerra GT - 1:19.8 2nd Mercedes McLaren SLR - 1.20.9 3rd Ford GT - 1.21.9 Joint 4th Ferrari 360 CS - 1.22.3 - Porsche GT3 RS - 1.22.3 5th Murcielago - 1.23.7 6 Zonda - 1.23.8 7 Koenigsegg - 1.23.9 8 Noble - 1.25.0 9 Gallardo - 1.25.8 10 Lotus Exige - 1.26.4 11 Chevrolet Corvette - 1.26.8 12 Porsche 911 GT3 - 1.27.2 i'de say the Ford GT is closer to the Carrera GT then then the GT3 is to the Ford GT... credit where credit is due...

I take an opposite view...and perhaps a more objective one.
I've followed the work process pretty closely, and I think the Ford team of 37 or so people did a bang-up job, with modern demands on car design noted. Also..it'll trounce a GT3. Actually, from many published sources...the Ford GT is much more comparable to the Carrera GT from a performance standpoint With this in mind, I think it's incredible the Ford costs $150K while the Carrera GT is $440K. Just another view..... ---Wil

Half of the roof is attached to the door! I would be the one to catch that in the forehead somehow.

Ford gt
If money were NO object the P-GT is it. The ford on the other hand is a bargin, at 150k large, you can have 2 for the price of the P-GT. Jay leno now has BOTH CARS, he was the NO 2 Ford GT RETAIL delivery confirmed last night by the ford exec with the car my son is in. Now to see if he will let one of the Car Mags let them do a comparison test.....

The GT40 trounced the GT3 big-time in the Car-n-Driver report. Old, new, that thing rules.

Can you get a Ford GT for $150K? No, the price just helps the hype. The Ford GT is a very rare and limited production car. I have seen more Enzo's and Carrera GT's than the Ford GT for example.
As far as an comparisson to the GT3, if you took the $50K you saved and threw it in to the GT3 it would clearly be the better and faster car around any track.

BD,
They've just started shipping the GT so it's no surprise you haven't seen many... They're going to make abuot 4500 in all so I'm sure there will be way more sold than CGT's end Enzo's. Once you start adding money to a car to equalize performance, you're standing on a slipperly sope. Hmmm. How about we start with a new Corvette or 350Z and drop $50k in mods and then see how the GT3 compares?

the corvette composite transverse leaf spring double-wishbone suspension is hardly well represented by saying "it has leaf spring suspension." the suspension is very modern and advanced.

I don't get it....
Here Ford builds the equivalant of a 917-for-the-street ( if *Porsche* built a car like this)...and still the hard line arguments that are so subjective because our Porsche's don't come out looking so good. Ford did an admirable job, and the car is just wet-my-pants fantastic. This shape never grows old. I love my Porsche's and the heritage and history and all that...but the Ford GT is a truly awesome car very much along the stripes of a Carrera GT....no question. Just don't get me started on the Daimler/Chrysler ME12. Quad turbo V-12 with 200 *more* hp than either the Carrera GT or Enzo. Top end of about 240-250 mph. McLaren F1 territory....for ( hold on now !)...$440k. Porsche again misses the price/performance mark on *both* ends !! --- Wil

The GT40 is absolutely stunning. I saw 2 traveling together east on I-94 toward Ann Arbor yesterday (maybe they were heading for Woodward?). One was red, one was black. They're soooo low and wide you could spot them coming 1/2 mile away. The GT3 is awesome and I'm as big a Porsche fanatic as anyone, but given a choice? GT40. Anyday. -- Curt

I'm a HUGE GT40 fan, and I've seen Top Gear episodes to which svondamme refers -- the GT40 is astonishing.
Jeremy Clarkson could own just about any car made, and he chose the GT40 -- overcoming his pathological dislike of things American. That alone should say something! I'd take a GT40 over any currently produced Porsche, Carrera GT included (or I'd sell the CGT and buy a GT40 and a bunch of other cars). SPOILER ALERT -- don't read on if you're going to watch the Top Gear GT40 review... There is a VERY funny bit in the Top Gear review of this car when Jeremy runs the car out of gas on the track. He says he loves the car so much he's still not going to get out of it. Back in the studio his co-host asks what mileage he got; Jeremy sheepishly says "four", as in MPG. The co-host then asks what the fuel capacity is, and Jeremy says it's about 17 gallons. "Uh-huh" says the co-host, so if you're lucky you can get about 75 miles per TANK. And how far, say, is your home from the Top Gear Studios?" he asks Jeremy. "76 miles" says Jeremy. Then they pull another car in next to the GT40, leaving a reasonable amount of room between vehicles ... and invite Jeremy to get in. Due to the length of the door and the portion of the roof attached thereto, Jeremy can't manage to get into his own car. It's hysterical. Then the Stig goes out and scorches the track with it -- you've seen the scoreboard. JP

I agree. Credit is due Ford. They did not set out to build a replica. The last car you'd want to use on the street is an original (or replica) GT40. This is a modern street car in the spirit of the original and not a marketing stunt.
I'd take one over The GT3 or Modena.

It also has over 500 HP, a top speed of over 200 MPH, and meets modern emission standards etc. If you want to buy a car capable of an honest 200 MPH, your choices are pretty limited these days...
