Burglarized/Vandalized!

Went on vacation. Enjoyed the vacation, but upon return, the house was not only burglarized, it was also vandalized!
Contents of the home a total loss. P-Car gone! Parts not attached to car Vandalized!

A security firm was "supposedly" watching the house. Had "security" for years, although the old company was bought out 6 mos ago.

Police notified, and they are diligently working the case.

What would you do? Do you extract a pound of flesh, point the finger, litigate, roll with the sucker punch and write it off, WHAT!!!!!!!!

Is the security firm liable? The previous owner/CEO of the firm?

Relying on the power of this board for support, healing and super fast/unique guidance/opinions!

If this happened to you what would you do?!!!!

Help answer my questions during this confusing time!

techweenie 08-19-2004 04:09 PM

Really sorry for you, Dave.

Was the security company a monitor & patrol or patrol-only?

Who knew you'd be away for an extended period?

Security companies sometimes aren't too careful with background checks, so 'inside jobs' aren't unheard of.

I know the feeling of having your house violated is awful, but remember, it could have been much worse.

BillyIdaho,

I am in the Security Industry,.

Send me a pm, I may be able to help advise you on the actions you should take.

Bill

Sent you PM Tech...

BillyIdaho 08-19-2004 04:49 PM

Bill,
Thanks for the reply.

What do you suggest?

350HP930 08-19-2004 04:55 PM

Insurance?

bell 08-19-2004 05:08 PM

that sucks.......good luck with the recovery.

who was the person who had their 911 keys "fished" off of his halway table through the mail slot? can't remember who it was........

techweenie 08-19-2004 05:09 PM

Not sure what you're getitng at with the CEO issue.

What did the new CEO do/promise?

Was there a change in service? Was there a change in personnel?

BillyIdaho 08-19-2004 07:36 PM

I only bring up the CEO thing as a point of discussion - allegedly HE (old CEO) was the one that was in charge of hiring the personel aquired by the new owners, developing SOP's, and reviewing security risk assesments.

Knowing this, does this make the new ownership less "culpable" for whatever failure in the system took place?
So far the current leadership is going through the motions of being helpful, but is blaming the previous owner for the shortcoming that lead to the disaster. WTF???

Any input on this?

BillyIdaho 08-19-2004 07:39 PM

Lots of Insurance, but roughly 3000 irreplacable items...

911boost 08-20-2004 06:32 AM

Dave,

There are a couple of different ways to handle this. Is this a large 'National" Security Company, or a local mom and pop company?

Bill

Sorry for the loss.
Possibilities:
-Neighborhood kids (though the car is out of character)
-Local help such as landscapers, construction or temporary help gave info to thieves
-Professional ring

Look on Ebay as something is going to show up sooner or later. How about a description of your car?

BillyIdaho 08-22-2004 06:37 AM

Please let me clarify, since some of you are getting the wrong idea:
This is a theoretical situation, not an actual event.

Please note where I asked "What would you do in this situation?"
Please note that I never said it happened to me, although I admit fashioning the post so that could be construed. I appologize if anyone feels mis-led.
Thank you for your kind thoughts, though.

I was hoping to see more feedback, but I sense some folks may have saw the land mine...

The purpose? I was attempting to draw a metaphorical example of 9/11.

I ran this scenario in front of many people before I published it online, and not one person I talked to said that they would continue to employ a "security" company that allowed this to happen on their watch.
Not one person agreed that the previous CEO (President) was a sufficient scape goat - the current CEO (Bush) needed to go, and major re-structuring needed to take place in the organization.

Very interesting - several Republicans I know (surrounded by them in Idaho)"got it", and are now exploring what the Democrats have to offer with an interesting aura of enthusiasm, and renewed dissapointment with the current leadership. It also got political discussion back on topic regarding the campaign.

Afterall, what happened 30 years ago to John Kerry is not an issue comparible in scope to the tradgedy of 9/11 that happened while Bush was in charge.

edit: Nevermind. Have a nice day.

looks like a piss-poor analogy to me...

well no doubt you went to the home owners association and cried please let's do something about these thugs who are defying us with immunity for the last 12 years

We all know that a couple of the neighbors won't have any part of that. . . I think that those French an Russian guys, down the block, may have something to do with fencing stuff for those thugs. . . so They, of course voted to do nothing.

So I say let's get the neighbors together . . the ones who aren't in on the theft, . . .AND GO KICK THE THIEVES ASSES!

btw, billy; dumb-ass thread you started.

LOL, I knew the lame and convoluted analogies would soon follow from the bush-war lovers.

If you wanted to follow the bush doctrine you should have firebombed the houses where any children who might have been responsible lived.

Shooting at suspicious vehicles driving by your house might be another, especially if driven by minorities.

I give, HP. . .I tried. . but you win the "lame analogy" contest.

Well, ya got me beat there. .. but billy.. .you'll have to go much lamer than what you've got so far. ;)

speeder 08-22-2004 04:17 PM

Sorry I got here late......, you MUST bomb Montana! Don't wait for the police to finish their investigation, they are a bunch of pinkos. Same w/ Minnesota and Wisconsin who are saying wait, those surrender-monkeys have been buying beef from Montana forever!

Listen to Jesus, BOMB THEM NOW!! :D
