Kinda OT.. Whos seen gumball 3000?

Well a guy dropped off a computer at my place a while ago (im a technicion) and it had a bunch of 911 pictures on it. I was like cool and when his wife came to pick up the computer i asked her about the porsches and she told me that her husband won the gumball run last year with his 911. Remember that one with the 750 HP? I guess his brother just came in today to buy a cable and his brother just got a gt3 ...lucky bastard. Anyways just thought id share. Im hoping the guy comes back with one of his cars.

I saw it...great race. A friend of mine and I are thinking of doing it next year. I believe the only fees are $10,000 and that covers everything....just have to pay for shipping our car overseas.

They tried to do this in the US a couple of times, but it didn't jive with the law enforcement.

They are complete tools.

Watch/rent/buy "Mischief 3000". Anyone who wants to associate with these guys is an idiot.

Siberian,
That comment was not directed at you personally.

I saw the gumballers a couple of years ago when they stopped near by. The cars were truly awesome (as were some of the drivers), and I thought the Gumball was really cool - it sounded like fun, both the driving and the evening events.

However, seeing the "documentary" titled Mischief 3000 completely changed my mind. If you think passing a tractor trailer on the right side shoulder at 120 mph is really cool, this is definitely your cup of tea. Stupidly endangering innocent lives (including children and puppy dogs) is not something I aspire to. The vast majority of the people involved lacked skills and drove like complete and total idiots.

If you saw Mischief 3000 and thought "Cool!" then yes, I absolutely I think you are an idiot too. If you think Cannonball! (the book) was a good read, then I might agree with you. Of course, the focus of that book was traversing the country at a high rate of speed safely... there was an ideal that was completely broken by the "Gumball" crowd.

The GumBall 3000 is cool but it is also very money orientated , if your are disgusted by lots of cash being chucked away then wouldn't advise it, but looks a lot of fun too. The cost is £10,000 GBP. I would love to get a few people togther but the price keeps going up in an elite sort of way. This years daftness included a £1,000,000 Cayanne whose gearbox went south somewhere in deep Europe, the owner flew to Germany in his private jet got 2 mechanics and a box they worked all night in the hotel car park and it was rolling again in the morning. 2 Tailors for London Soho flagged down a balck cab and registered to do it in that - Paris to Marakesh - total fare was £9,000! As well as numerous crashes and more daftness etc. See the website!

I think Ill skip the race and buy another Porsche. High rates of speed are not cool on public roads, the surfaces are lousy and there are to many other drivers/animals/and Kids running around for that kind of lunacy, kill a kid in a car and I guarantee that you'll never want to drive again. buy "Porsche High-Performance Driving Handbook" by Vic Elford, then take your Porsche to a local track day or club event its cheaper and safer and you'll be a better on road driver as well.

Fun for only the people that have money oozing from their pores..

It would be nice though.. to be able to participate without any thought as to the money involved...

Yeah the price on the current exchange rate is abot $18k. It really does get worse every year; there was quite a rare RS Cosworth Escort totaled this year not expensive by general standards of the cars on the race but still a loss for UK motor history. There is now a european (again UK based) version of the race (think its actually been going for a few years too) not sure what its called might be the Cannonball Run. Think its a fair bit cheaper and a bit more down to earth!

Keep in mind the $18K includes all accomodations. That's race, lodging, food, "bail out of jail card" etc, etc. etc. Between two people that's not such a bad deal....

hmm not sure about the bail out of jail.............bribes to obscure Police depatments in the continent averaged £5,000-£10,000 per team! Basically everyone who wants to enter meets in London a month prior to the and the organisers choose who they want to go, the cooler/wackier the car/team the more likely you are to go. You must use the same car on this day as for the event, otherwise you will be disqualified. The $18k is upfront if you take ill, are disqualified or otherwise the $18k is apparently non-refundable which is pretty dodgy!
