Mulholland, you are correct about the Toledo Blade being a liberal paper.
I have lived in Toledo and it's suburbs most of my 38 yrs. The Blade is the only large local newspaper but many Republicans that I know have dropped their subscriptions in recent years because the paper is so one- sided.

Bear in mind the Blade got a Pulitzer for that series of articles. That made it the best piece of investgative reporting this year.

Unless you disagree with what it says, in which case you probably think it was crap. Or if you think getting a Pulitzer is a liberal thing.

Haven't you figured it out yet? Whatever they don't want to hear is "liberal."

Cam
As a matter of fact, I do. There is nothing in the Pulitzer judging process that requires the work to be true or accurate. In fact, there is no set criteria whatsover. It is a liberal award, administered by a liberal university and judged in secret by ballot. The Pulitzer has become...much like the Nobel Peace Prize...just another way to push a liberal political agenda.

Like everything the liberals get their hands on, it has been politicized....From the Nobel Prize (Arafat got one) to the Academy Awards (Leni Riefenstahl and Michael Moore), yes, even to the Pulitzer Prize.

But I could be wrong Cam, why don't you illuminate for me the conservatives on the Pulitzer Prize judging committee.

CamB 08-29-2004 09:01 PM

Conservatives don't do much literature (or any arts) - its like academia being populated by liberals - there isn't enough money in it for the average conservaive, so they generally avoid it.

And conservatives, generally, oppose funding for the arts. Funnily enough, this also means that those who make the arts, and support the arts, are liberal.

In a round about way, what I am saying is that I expect that the Pulitzer org is liberal, and that the prizes most often go to liberals. The conservatives aren't in the same room to be considered.

Seriously, stop blaming liberals for all the faults in the world. It isn't possible - you (and all the developed world) live in a democracy and this breeds a wide variety of opinion. Neither liberal nor conservative has a mortgage on making good decisions.

I don't agree. Conservatives want sensible funding for the arts. Think Da Vinci or Michelangelo. O'keeffe, Mahler, Copeland. I will gladly support these folks with my tax dollars.

But anyone with a CV that reads "performance artist" or who uses scatalogical materials as paint need not apply.
