The postman has blue eyes

I have to start by stating that I love my wife. We have a 7 1/2 month old daughter, Jewell (named after her great grandfather), who is extremely cute with the most beautiful blue eyes. Neither my wife or I have blue eyes. We both have the recessive gene though since we both have one parent with blue eyes.

So anyways today my wife is out shopping, and a clerk comments on Jewell's blue eyes, notes that my wife's eyes are brown, and then asks, "Does her father have blue eyes?"

My wife says, "No."

The clerk asks, "Where do her blue eyes come from then?"

My wife answers, "The mailman."

I wish I could have been there to see the that!

Now you have to understand that my wife and I go through this same conversation once or twice a week, and she's gotten a little tired of being questioned about Jewell's genetic makeup. I told her next time she should answer, "The pizza delivery boy."

I would say the milkman but they don't have those anymore. I have blue eyes and everyone else in my family has dark eyes except my sister who has green. It's kind of strange the way things work out.

I'm blond. Both of my parents have dark hair. The answer to the ever-common question? "Mixup at the hospital."

My wife and I have an African-American (or black depending on where you live) foster daughter. Got her when she was 2 and she is now 4. Still hoping to adopt her. I can't tell you the number of times we have been asked if she is adopted (wife and I both white). Last few times I have just been replying: "No, why would you ask that? Can't you tell she has my eyes?"

People can be so incredibly stupid. One of my favorites is when some idiot asks a woman when her baby is due. Very dangerous question. Particularly if the woman is not pregnant.

My wife hated that one too. A couple times she told people she wasn't pregnant. What's even worse is complete strangers who tried to feel her belly without even asking.
