Porker Paintwerk

Hey all, could anyone tell me what the best type of paint is for diy paintwork with a compressor. I'm not doing a full respray just 2 fenders and bumper. I'm getting conflicting info on the different paint types from local suppliers and wondered what other people had used (eg; Cellulose, Synthetic, Acrylic & Polyester). I want to avoid 2-pack as I know its very toxic and needs an air-fed mask / booth etc any help appreciated. My colour is a metallic grey.

I don't like urethane, but you didn't mention that one. Anyway, avoid it. It's the toxic one and hard to handle; slow to dry.

Acrylic is hard to beat. Celluose is all but non existant and is not compatible with many undercoats or paints. Synthetic is what I call machinery and maintenance enamel. IOW, cheap. Commonly used by Earl Scheib and the like.

Lastly, polyester is a 2 part, did you say you didn't want to get involved with that? Anyway, it is the best form of primer you can use for build up and block sanding. Didn't know you could get it in auto paint form. Commonly used on boats as a basic coating.

I would be cautious about using a single-stage paint to spray metallic paint. It is not easy. Basecoat/clearcoat is great for metallic colors. I have no idea what cellulose, and polyester paints are.

Yes Zeke I didn't know polyester was avaliable in the trade that was suitable for cars till today, as a factor recommended it over others but its not on his price list (think I will give it a miss)!? are there acrylic basecoat/clearcoats you can recommend any links to sites - are there ones that are ready to spray just need thinning? I didn't actually realise you could get single stage metallics I would have though it would be very hard to achieve a even / good finish this way - thanks will also avoid? Also what buffers do you use. I currently have Meguiars but been recommended 3M Imperial Swirl remover / Glaze. Thanks for the help!
