Sailboats? Catalina 30?

Hello all, I am considering getting back into sailing and have been looking at boats which I can sail along the coast of California and to the local islands.

I have experiece with Catalina boats and am looking at Catalina 30's. Anyone have one of these? Any other boats I should consider in the 25-30K range?

TIA
-B

I've stopped taking SAIL, CRUISING WORLD, etc...so not up on the current offerings. I'd suggest you enter a subscription to both. In the 30' keelboat range? Cruises to Catalina & back type sailing? You might place Hunter on your list of boats to look at...

Catalinas are nicely laid out and decent performing boats.
Hunters are good if you are looking to socialize/cruise.
Jenneau makes a decent 30 foot cruiser.
An J-30 would be in your price range and you get a lot more performance.
CS-30 are nice boats as well but may be out of your price range.

I race a J29 here on the east coast and have for 4 years. We've had alot of fun in the bar after races discussing which boats we'll get when we get lazy and retire fom racing! lol

Here is a list of some boats that might be worth looking at (IMHO)

Pearson 33
Tartan 30
Alberg 35
C & C's (30' 34') even from the early 70's. Great boats
and one of my favorite cruisers... Nonsuch 30

not sure what the prices are these days but the Nonsuch is probably more than you were looking to spend.

Good luck with your search.
