down the playoff stretch

So here we are.

About a month and a half ago, I was ready to give up on the Red Sox. Nothing was working.

Something happened after Jason Varitek punched A-Rod in the mouth in a game that was won when Mueller hit a walk-off HR off Rivera in the bottom of the 9th... since then, the Red Sox have been 25-7. 13 for their last 14. Seven straight.

10 days ago, the Red Sox were a depressing 10.5 behind the Yankees

As of tonight, the Yankees lead is down to only 3.5 games, and we have a 2.5 game lead in the Wild Card race

Did I mention that tonight's Yankee loss is the most lopsided loss in the American League since 1901?

Something tells me it's gonna be an interesting month for baseball fans...

September will be wild. Yankee$ and Sox will go to the wire. A's, Angels and Rangers will be tight. Great season!

Hudson is back from the DL looking strong. Mulder is smokin'. The A's are playing the best defensive ball in the league. If the bullpen can get it together they have a shot.

When I saw the title, I knew this had to be a thread of yours...great game tonight, except for the relief pitching. I have ticketsto a Sept. game in Yankee stadium..I can't wait. When the Sox were 10.5 back, I was getting nervous that I would be going to a meaningless game.

Looks like the Nomar trade is truly paying off....

22-0

There's only one thing that could have made it better.... if it were the Red Sox that punked them.

after tonight, the sox win their 10th straight (longest streak since 1995)

and we are ONLY 2.5 BEHIND THE YANKEES

remember, 2 weeks ago we were 10.5 back

There are GREAT pennant races this year. The Yankees seem on the verge of implosion.

I wish football would wait till after the World Series!

the yankees have one of the best offenses in the majors, period

they also have one of the best bullpens...

BUT

they have overused Quantrill, Gordon, and Rivera... and it is showing, because these three are giving up runs where they used to be lights out.

Combine this with terrible starting pitching (admit it), and we all of a sudden have the Yankees losing even when they score 7 runs.

The Sox, on the other hand....

"Kevin Brown's frustrating season finally reached a boiling point, and now his hot temper could cost the New York Yankees at the most important time.

Brown broke his non-pitching hand when he punched a wall in the clubhouse Friday night during a 3-1 loss to the visiting Baltimore Orioles that cut New York's lead in the AL East to just 2-1/2 games over Boston.

''Stupidity,'' Brown said, choosing his words carefully.

''I reacted to frustration I'd swallowed all year. ... There are no excuses. I let it boil over and I did something stupid. I owe my teammates an apology for letting my emotions take over like that.''

Already short on starting pitching, the Yankees were unsure how long the 39-year-old right-hander might be out. He was to be examined by a hand specialist today."

I'd take Boston on an even money bet to win the division.

I'd take the Redsox pitching staff over the Yankees for sure. The Redsox pitchers are all coming together nicely at the right time....

Looks like the Yankees were showing a little fear of the Sox when they tried to get a forfeit from Tampa due to the hurricane...
