The ad said "incomplete", I wonder what is missing?

I think these two strokes run horizontaly, vertically and upside down, right?

So it could be used not only for a radial WW I or WW II aircraft but a helicopter, hovercraft or with proper linkage a low center of gravity car (like Porsche).

I think radials were also used in tanks.

Well, those are old OS model four strokes, they are also missing carburators. The cranks look missing too as they should be sticking out the front. The new ones have well enclosed valve trains and the intake in the rear.

That engine looks like it would be a nightmare to tune...

It looks to me that the individual cranks are there but no mechanism to tie them into a commn shaft.

wouldn't the cranks be sticking out where those OS stickers are?

How in the hell could you ever get those engines to turn a single prop?

Good question. How are the rpms of the individual engines equalized.

like I said, a pain in the a$$ to tune.

Most of the time multicylinder engines have one carburator but those engines weren't desitned with that in mind. they were desigined to have a carb each and thus are machined in a way expecting that. I'm sure that you could fit a venturi where the intake is with and pipe that to a single carb but that would be a lot of piping to overcome. Lots of choke needed for that...

I think your right though - clearly a good place for a megasquirt.

'Tain't NOTHING. Check this site out; they've got a display in Terminal 4 here at the Phoenix airport:

Un-FRIGGING-believable stuff.

As I remember, this was a mod to swing big props, with a gear on each engine, and a gear on a shaft through the center bearing, which the prop was attached to.

In reality that setup is no different than a weber equiped 911, individual runners in effect make the the 911 motor 6 individual little engines. as long those motors are geared to the common shaft in sequence it would act like a 5 cylinder IR engine.

all the individual engines should be driving a gear, which all in turn drive a central gear which would turn the prop, I can only imagine that it would have to be 1:1 ratio all the way around.

this would keep the rpm's matched all the wayaround but unless they were all tuned exactly the same and perfectly balanced, it might be a little screwball. a single carb or injection system might fix some of the issues.
