Denver, i need a favor
hi Denver!! I just returned from denver to K.C. While in Denver I visited a friend who is having some hard times, and we did a few things to her car, mostly cleaning. the car has a v6, 3.8 L. throttre body olds engine, it is a 87cutlass 4 door. She just emailed me, saying that the oil cap came off the engine, and now "they" want to replace the manifold. i drove the car Labor day and it seemed fine. In fact i think it has a new water pump and manifold.
does anyone have a shop on Colfax, near the Porsche dealership and the new Wal-Mart construction site, near Carr St., or Wadsworth?, where i could send her?:) Thanks a million!! dr tom |
No idea what shops are in Denver, but you should just send her to the nearest parts store (like a NAPA, or Checkers/Kragen/Schucks, or Advanced Auto Parts) and buy a oil cap and oil if a lot came out. These are readily available. What "manifold" are they talking about?

spoke with her again last nite, i think she got some bad advice from a non auto owning person ( do such peeple exist??????) i think it just fell off due to rubber rot, since i had power washed the engine. she put another cap on it, but it was the wrong size, so the guy tried to bend the flange to fit the cap. she may be talking about the valve cover, as it seems the filler is in on the 3.8 L, it as i recall.
You all know how it is when someone is trying to hold onto a job, has limited funds, knows LITTLE about cars, and the car "acts up". Fear sets in fast. Actually, she says the car RUNS fine, so i think it is ok. she was so proud and happy with her old clunker when i let her use my buffer on its oxidized paint and the results were terrific, then some wacko fills her with mis- information. thanks, still looking for a pelican motorhead in that area. this gal actually used to have a contract for paint chip repair at that PORSCHE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL YEARS AGO. Funny how a perwson can have such specialized knowledge in one area, then not much in another area that seems so related. dr tom |
