I wish he and the democratic party understood what Vince Lombardi understood. That the best defense is a good offense. If I were the democratic candidate for president (gosh, wouldn't that be funny), I'd come out swinging immediately. It'd look like the Thrilla' in Manila. Leather would fly, and I would outline the important differences between the two parties, and between the two candidates. I'd make SURE that all Americans understand those fundamental differences, so that they would have a very clear choice to make. I would "sell" my ideology and contrast it with the other ideology. If the voters then reject mine, at least I tried. Like Jack Nicholson trying to rip the sink off its foundation in the Kesey classic. And if the other guys signal that they want to fight dirty, then I'd jump into that with both feet. Perhaps both candidates have skeletons in the closet. Without a doubt, Dubya does.
But again, the campaign need not be negative. Just outline a clear choice for the voter. Define yourself. Do not let the other guy define you.
But, the democratic party has been asleep at the wheel for many years. And they have consequently allowed some real confusion and identity theft in voters' minds, and have lost control of all three law-making branches of our federal government.
And I hope Kerry learns to shout. He needs to lace up the gloves and get sweaty.
