Hmmmmmm..... these guys really seem to have their finger on the pulse of the market.

dd74 09-13-2004 10:44 AM

Funny, I was going to post the same story...

Something like that would be fun until you have to parallel park it.

SteveStromberg 09-13-2004 11:08 AM

That truck is illegal on All residental streets in Calif. Max of 6000 GVW here. I had a Hummer towed from my street on Sat. I just called the Traffic Sgt at the PD a told him a oversize truck was parked on my street. When the Motor Cops showed up he acted like he didnt want to do anything But I had the Cal VC book and the brochure from the Hummer dealer and said here you read it. He Blah Blahed at that point I call The PD on my cell had a chat with his supervisor. They towed it. You should of seen how pissed the owner was when he came out but his Hummer was hooked up to a HD tow truck already. The cop said go get it out of impound. The Tow driver said do to having to use the HD tow truck it was $250 just for the Hook up and $5 a mile. I plan on doing this when ever those Jerks park any Hummer or other overweight truck on my street.

RickM 09-13-2004 11:20 AM

That's some tough love you're handing out there.

motion 09-13-2004 11:23 AM

Whewwwww..... my F250 is only 5850 pounds.

Hilarious story, Steve!

SteveStromberg 09-13-2004 11:37 AM

Wow grampa, quite a move there. Here's hoping you get nailed for a speeding ticket the minute you go 1 mph over the speed limit.

HD two truck to move a Hummer??? I had a Dodge 2500 diesel on a regular flatbed. It was $75 for 16 miles. I believe the Dodge is around 6500-7000 lbs.

Freightliner makes a nice dual cab truck that's great for towing fifth wheel trailers. I imagine it requires a commercial license, but for guys that do a lot of hauling/racing, it's the way to go.

dd74 09-13-2004 01:40 PM

I don't know who I'd be more afraid of - the Hummer owner, or the cop whose supervisor now knows the cop wasn't doing his job.

Hope neither guy knows where you live...

mikester 09-13-2004 01:52 PM

Man...Steve I can't believe I'm on your side.

I think that's fantastic Steve - just f'ing Fantastic.

Superman 09-13-2004 02:13 PM

I'm just as disgusted as anyone by the proportion of one-occupant SUV and PU autos on the road, but you'll have to forgive me (or not) for not congratulating Steve on his sense of community. I'm sure he had a good time having that person's car towed. And his proud post telling the story. But it'd be poetic justice (and karma) if his beloved 911 got towed because it was parked an inch too far from the curb. With neighbors like this, who needs enemies? Heck we could start a little contest, and maybe he has just done that, to see who can be the most "technical" neighbor.

mikester 09-13-2004 02:41 PM

Hey, a few thousand pounds over the weight limit of a residental street is lock stock and barrel more than 19 inches from the curb. Regardless - both are breaking the law technically but what is the spirit of the law? If the spirit of the law it so have folks try to park reasonably close the curb then 19 inches doesn't require citing in my book but on the other hand the spirit of the max vehicle weight is much more complex.

Should commercial vehicles be on residential streets? Should roads that weren't designed to accomodate heavier than average loads be taxed with them anyhow?

You have to pay to play.

Man...I'm starting to think I need to walk the walk and get rid of my 911 but the truth is I take the bus most days to work. Does that count?

island911 09-13-2004 03:44 PM

Hummers (and up) are huge. People that pretend that they are not deserve just what Steve gave 'em.

Parking a 911 an extra inch out over the required curb space, is hardly comparable. [feign]So, you'll have to forgive me (or not) for not congratulating Superman on his sense of community. I'm sure he had a good time imagining having having Steves 911 towed. ( poetic justice, karma, and all)[/feign]

Good going Steve. :D

Hummer H2's are sooooo 2003 ...... this Navistar is not going to sit well with the Hummer Boys. ;)

dd74 09-13-2004 04:03 PM

This is for people who want to make a statement after a nuclear holocaust...

The International Navistar is 26,000 pounds!

The company slogan is; "The Brilliance of Common Sense" (really!)

SteveStromberg 09-13-2004 04:15 PM

Saturday in Newport all the regular tow trucks were working the peninsula towing illegaly parked cars( sunday it was like 105 inland, So everyone hit the beach). The guy at GW tow knew he was going to be make some cash.

Simon S 09-13-2004 09:53 PM

Cheers Steve.

SUV’s turn me off. Rarely see anything off pavement, used for commuting to work, hard to see around, sluggish to maneuver, fuel-sucking, resource-wasting, flamboyant, idiotic, status symbols for those too stupid to appreciate a well-balanced piece of sporting machinery. (some people put a big ram-bar on the front.. to increase fuel economy I guess)

Go on.. choose the broad sword. Your throat will be slit with the rapier before you heave it into action.

kmhemi 09-13-2004 11:29 PM

So what's the story on this Kodiak?? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095146978.jpg

Mule 09-14-2004 06:04 AM

I can't wait for some stressed out, pmsing soccer mom to be behind me in one of those while she's talking on the phone & yelling at one of her urchins in the "back forty."
