Contractor Stupidity
I moved in mid-July. For two months there was a silt fence at the edge of my property. Today, before 2 days of hurrican Ivan rain they have decided to take up the fence and lay sod. I tried to stop this madness, but was too late. A picture tells a 1000 words.
What do you think will happen? I will post follow up photos. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095429395.jpg |
Steve,
The new sod will love the rain. I hope the dirt doesn't run off, it all depends on how much rain and jow fast it comes down. I hope all works out well for you. Beautiful house, BTW... |
I dont understand? Is your yard the one not sodded? I would be more concerned if it was my sodded yard and silt fence removed without getting sod down before rain. I am sure they will staple the sod so it doesnt slide down the incline. Just went through this at my new home. This is perfect weather, here anyways, to put in a new yard.
Joe Oh....I think that is your neighbors house, bet your yard gets full of lots of mud. |
They should have started the lawn at the house. Now they have to drive the tractor over the freshly laid sod......idiots...
|
Why are the dang houses so close together?

I should have been more elaborate. I was taking the photo *from* my house, I have had grass for 2 months. That is my back-door neighbors house (don't know him yet). 10 min after I posted my rant, they started putting the silt fence back up. It so happens that the builder was here doing th 45 day work, and I had my opportunity to *****. All better now. :)
We had a helluva storm the other night and all that mud was washing down my right side neighbor's lawn. Here's some other fun photos. My left side neighbors (not polical stuff please :) ) put in a pool. I don't know why, there's a pool in the neighborhood. They delivered it in one piece and craned it over the house. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095435478.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095435510.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095435560.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095435601.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095435646.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1095435682.jpg |
Those pool shots are cool!
How many sqft are those houses? I'd have done the house 1/2 that size, and dedicated the rest of the space to a shop :) |
Damn I can't say as I have ever seen a pool installed that way!
|
I don't know much about sod, but I love the view you have out of your window!
|
If you totally put in all the options, they can be about 5000 sq ft. Mine is a little smaller. 99% of the people that went with my builder (the prime developer) built the house in the photo. We picked something different.
Someone asked why they are so close...they are running out of land here in NoVA. It's actually OK, I work downtown so I don't have all the time and desire to cut that much lawn. Thom, if I had used your plans , I would be able to spend more on the car :) |
Sometimes that's the only way to get a pool in the back yard. I've done several this way.

By CA suburb standars they are well spaced out, LOL! There are tracks of homes built in the middle of no where next to nothing and the houses are maybe 10 feet apart. |
I'm 11ft away from one neighbor (3' is sidewalk and 8' is their driveway and my house is 15ft from the other neighbor's fence. We're adding 1000sq ft on our Colonial and it's tough when the houses are so close together. I guess back in the 20's and 30's when my neighborhood was built, people wanted small yards (no power mowers yet and few cars for garages)...
|
seems that the liability for a section of silt fence that has wooden stakes every 8-10 feet blowing in hurricane force winds might have played a role? not that it would be the only dangerous thing being flung around, but i could just imagine sections flying around with baseball bat size hardwood stakes. if it got to you it would be like being wrapped in a blanket and beat with sticks.

Steve,
Where in NoVa are you? I grew up right next to Wolf Trap Farm Park in Vienna. My folks still live there and as a matter of fact I am flying back to go to FedEx field on Monday the 27th to see the Skin's hopefully beat the crap out of the Cowboys. I was there last year in the sleet and rain and watched them look terrible (my Dad has season tickets). Bill |
BSiple, We have had just about enough of the Cowboys getting the crap kicked out of themselves this year (after 1 game). Can't you cut us some slack?

The Eagles looked tough last week. I am looking forward to watching them on Monday Night this year.
It's the Cowboys own fault for not having a QB. Is VInnie going to use a walker to get the center from the huddle? Bill |
