Magic potion to clean carpets?
Does anyone have any recommendation on what to use to clean carpets…specifically carpets in cars (or in this case my suburban). I have a tried a couple of different products and nothing is working…surely someone has a magic potion. What’s your secret recipe? TIA

It depends on what kind of stain you have. We bought new carpet for our house and the recommended cleaner is liquiddish soap and water!
A good stain lifter is plain carbonated water.

We just had some carpet installed in our bedroom a few months back and the installer claimed shaving cream was the best stuff but again, it truly depends upon what you are trying to remove and how long it has been there.
I personally like Castrol Super Clean. Allow it to set and follow this by working it in with a brush. Use a steam cleaner with upholstery attachment to remove the solution and hopefully, the stain. I have been able to remove 'crud' that other products could not touch with the Castrol product.

Dealerships have used BrakeClean for quite a few years on grease stains, both on interior carpets and on velour (fabric).

Some years ago, when I was single and a little lacking in the housekeeping department, a tube of Fan Belt dressing fell off my dresser, onto my bedroom floor where it got stepped on. Nice glop of black goop got tracked into the carpet. It looked like black toothpaste.
A year later, when moving out of the apartment, I went to the Manager to talk about how big a bite the spot on the carpet was going to take from my security deposit. He grabbed a spray bottle and a rag and we went to take a look. He said "here, try this" and handed me the bottle/rag, and with minimal work, I removed the spot completely. You couldn't see it at all. The bottle contained common household rubbing alcohol. Tom |

I use Shout clothing spot remover on auto carpets with very good results. Soak the spot for a while and rub it out.
Resolve carpet cleaner works well too. Jay 90 964 |

What about carpet that's not terribly dirty...just generally needs a bit of cleaning (i.e. no stains, spots, etc.) while still in the car...any suggestions?

I still use Shout or Resolve on carpets in cars for general cleaning. I also use our rug shampoo'er (home vacuum type contraption) for auto carpet cleaning with the regular home carpet soap that they sell everywhere. I'm sure there are many other suggestions for general carpet cleaning. Good Luck, Jay 90 964 |

Thanks Jay, That's kind of what I was wandering...pull the carpet out & use my home rug shampoo'er...a bit of a hassle, but probably worth the trouble.
