Protests against Saudi Rulers Planned
Anti-monarchy protest marches planned for Riyadh and Jedda are expected to draw tens of thousands of supporters, according to their Saudi dissident organiser.
Saad al-Faqih told Aljazeera.net on Tuesday that his radio stations – that reach over two thirds of the Saudi population - have been preparing for the demonstrations for over six weeks. "The Saudi regime is unreformable. This event will involve a series of civil activities whose purpose is clear – to remove the current regime," al-Faqih told Aljazeera.net. http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/553289FC-4269-4C71-910A-E4CC032B4C60.htm What do people here think about this? Even though this regime isn't the best as far as human rights, the instability this may cause concerns me. |

Did you know that Saudi Arabia is the only country whose name is the same as his regime dictator, King Saud?
I believe that you should have invaded them instead of Irak if you wanted to fight terrorist.

I agree with Serge914, Saudi Arabia is the real enemy and immediate threat. They fund anti-Western Madrassas facilities around the world, among other terrible things.

Rigt after 9/11 I said we should send somebody to the middle east to deliver a modified version of the speach that Clint Eastwood gave at the end of Unforgiven. Something like "We came over here & found your oil & made you rich beyond your wildest dreams. But ya'll can't seem to get along. All you do is dwell on this hate your religion spouts. Now you have 90 days to get your ***** staight. If yu don't, in 90 days we're coming back. But we won't be back to talk. If we have to come back, we're coming back to kill everything that walks, crawls or sits still. We will put Exxon in charge of the whole region & gas will be 36 cents a gallon in the USA. So if you can't get your ***** straight & you don't want to die, pack up your camel & ride."

Well there you go again, you wicked liberals. Making everything sound so complex and interconnected, and suggesting that grown men at the controls of governments and massive financial interests might abuse their powers and make decisions that run contrary to the public good.
When in reality, Mule has it all figured out. It's exceedingly simple. Like a Clint Eastwood western.

Saudi society is very conservative...along the lines of the Taliban. After all 100 years ago they were still just camel jockeys living out in the desert...now the country is wealthy beyond the dreams of the Caliph of Bagdad...the Royal family as corrupt and oppressive as ever at least recognizes the reality of the situation that they must deal with the west.
If the Saudi Royal Family is overthrown....who is going to asssume leadership of the country..and will it become a theocracy...and will it be as radical as the Taliban... Osma would like to return under those circumstances....would he be a player on stage or behind the scenes.... And what will the reaction of the West be...Germany and France can hem and haw all they like to the poor house..but the USA may just put the petal to the metal...and say any interuption in the flow of oil is unacceptable...you have to play by the rules of the game or your out... And I can hear our Liberals just moan over that one...but take a step back..and look around...what if the new Saudi regime turns off the spigot of oil after all they are not worried about this world but the 72 virgins in the next one......what happens to the Global economy...and take a look at the USA, its very economic survival depends on the Global economy...the global staatus quo as it were...Its very easy to imagine that the Global economy will go in the toilette...and with it your job, your house, your car and your Liberal ideas...cause I havn't met a Liberal yet that wants to live like Teddy Kozinsky did in Montana... Now lets just throw one more rock in this pond and creat a another ripple....Shia and Sunnis don't get along....The Arabs (Saudi) are Sunni and the Iranians are Shia.....It is very easy to imagine the 2 sides squaring off agianst each other...The Arabs side of the equation are very concerned about the influence that Iran (Shia) is having in Iraq, a country that was formerly ruled by Arab Sunnis... Oh what a tangled mess it all is....and is it any wonder that previous administrations have decided to ignore it...

Whoa, tabs. First, let me annouce that you have now met a liberal who'd be perfectly happy living like Kozinski. I grew up in the sticks, go there for peace throughout the year and have considered joining the "simplification" movement. My liberal friends who have, are the happiest people I know. Their faces just beam with peace. right now, half of them are snowed in and we won't see them until at least March. So, I guess your stereotypes don't always work. In fact, they don't usually work. But then, that's never daunted those who have to lie in order to support their policies. Not calling you a liar, tabs. Just reporting that the stuff I read here about myself and my liberal friends is better than a Lewis Carroll novel.
And I'd point out that your concerns about the power vacuum left behind if the Saudi family is ousted. But be careful. That's the same concern those ugly, nasty, stupid, treacherous liberals have been expressing about our deliberate actions in a nearby ME country.
