And the Kerry Campaign Fall Guy is...Joe Lockhart!

Couldn't they have found someone a little lower profile to pin this on?

Kerry Aide Talked to Bush Guard Docs Figure
Tuesday, September 21, 2004

NEW YORK — At the suggestion of a CBS News producer, a top adviser to John Kerry talked to the man at the center of the National Guard "memogate" imbroglio before the disputed documents were revealed, FOX News has confirmed.

Joe Lockhart (search) said he got a call from CBS the Saturday before the Sept. 8 broadcast which launched the network into a firestorm of controversy.

The CBS representative alerted Lockhart that a man in Texas, Bill Burkett (search), was interested in helping the Kerry-Edwards campaign. Lockhart then called Burkett, a former Texas Army National Guard official who CBS says provided the doubtful documents.

But Lockhart denied any connection between the Kerry campaign and the documents, saying there is "no basis" for the White House charges that the Kerry campaign had something to do with the memo entanglement.

Lockhart, the second Kerry adviser to confirm contact with Burkett, said he made the call at the suggestion of CBS producer Mary Mapes. Mapes told him there were some records "that might move the story forward," Lockhart said. "She didn't tell me what they said."

He added that it was common knowledge that CBS was working on a story raising questions about Bush's Guard service.

"All I know is that she [CBS producer] called and said 'this gentleman is interested in talking to you,'" Lockhart told FOX News on Tuesday. "Certainly, there was no discussion at all with Mr. Burkett about the National Guard documents ... "I think he was a little bit frustrated he was calling the campaign and I wasn't calling him back. He made some good points and that was the end of it."

If these bozos had gone to the local pawn shop and bought a $25 typewriter this story would still have legs. And doing un-told damage to Bush. Got to love the DNC-CBS connection.

It's all a cozy little party isn't? CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, the rest of the mainstream media, Rather, Mapes, the DNC, Kerry officials Cleland and Lockhart, et al. The sad part is they've been partying together for years but it hasn't really sunk in to the general public. Until now. Who knows how many other elections they've tampered with?

Interesting enough, last night, CBS local (Los Angeles), went into some depth about Bill Burkett. Supposedly he's borderline insane, suffering paranoia, schizophrenia, and a whole host of other mental ailments. He also has openly said Bush is "demonic."

Sheesh! Sometimes a news organization just can't pick their sources...

Anyway, I honestly think this will blow over before the election. Why? Attention span, of which America has none. Everyone's read the anti-Bush books already, and now no one's talking about those anymore. Secondly, I'm not altogether sure anyone truly cares about Bush's Nat'l Guard service. Conversely, with Kerry, the swift boat issue has gone to the back pages because Kerry stopped running the ads and no longer mentions Vietnam. Now his sights are set on Iraq - which is where they belong.

All-in-all, beheadings and war are more on peoples' minds these days, than one's detritus from 30+ years ago.

Yeah, except Rathergate has nothing to do with National Guard Service. The issue is now the likely collusion of CBS, the DNC and the Kerry campaign to damage Bush - that's BIG stuff. Until who-did-what-when is determined, I don't see it going away before the election.

Hmm...sounds like he has a grasp of reality to me. :p

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part. Given that, I agree with you.

But you know what the new new defense is over those forgeries: "...the facts, whether forged or not, are still true."

LOL! Anything to save face.
