Futuristic Mercedes S500/600...what was this car?

So here I am last night, just starting to get dark and I pull up next to a car that looks much like a Mercedes S500/600 from the rear...but it's more...uhm, futuristic looking...kind of with a Bentley flavor. What the hell is it? No name plates to read...but a mysterious triple M insignia (As it turns out it's a double M). Hmmm, is that the Maybach I saw about a year ago at a show?

Pull alongside and a young lady, who I've seen before, looks over...I move up some more....even the front looks a bit like the big Mercedes.

First I've seen in my neighborhood.....

Time to look it up on Google:

The Maybach is DaimlerChrysler's entry into Bentley / RR territory....

"Homage: Wilhelm Maybach, the designer of the first Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz and Maybach - two automobile brands with a great tradition and much in common: Wilhelm Maybach (1846 - 1929), for many years the engineering companion of Gottlieb Daimler (1834 - 1900), was the Technical Manager at Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) and designed the first Mercedes - which is also considered to be the first modern passenger car - in 1901. For this reason he was respectfully referred to as the "king of designers".

The two letters entwined within a curved triangle originally signified "Maybach Motorenbau", but now stand for "Maybach Manufaktur"."

That Maybach the ugliest thing I've seen in a while. You can definitely see the Chrysler influence.

There is no Chrysler influence on this car.

You have to see it in person - it is a fantastic car.

And with 500+ hp, and 600+ lb ft of torque, it moves.

I saw one the other day at Mt-Tremblant and it look more like a mix between a big Mercedes and a Russian limousine. Not realy ugly, just fade and boring.

For the money it's an ugly car, though it looks better next to your helicopter and 150 ft. yacht. If I had that type of money and needed a boring car to be driven in I would go with a 600 SEL get it extended and have Brabus do the engine and suspension.

There is nothing boring about 500+ hp. Trust me, the car MOVES.

Yes but the chauffeur is having all the fun while the owner is drinking champagne in the back.

The Maybach is nice but the MB to get is the CL65 604 hp 738 lb-ft stock. With a few mod 1,000 lb-ft would be easy to see.

Have you sat in the back, first class all the way.

If you want to sell the back seat, you have to have pictures. My only dislike are the ones with curtains on the back side windows, reminds me too much of a hearse.

These things are ugly......

There is one just around the block from my office.....parks next to a 996TT.

Long low and totally uninspiring, all that torque or not...

Well I guess it matches the Bentley Continental and the new RR that live here...

First class interior?!?!?!?? glorified business class more like.

Sorry its not a patch on the original 600 Pullman...

That's exactly why that car's not for me. Well, it's price tag also gets in the way...

There are two versions...the 57 and 62. The 57 is shorter and more of a "driver's car". The longer 62 is the limo version.

These cars are four seaters with each seat being a "pod", kind of like an ultra first class airline seat.

yawn

Sorry for my daily transportation I want something sporty and efficient. Granted I don't have the money to even consider changing the oil in one let alone buy one but it just seems like such a waste when the thing is meant for the owner to be in the back seat.

Yeah, but after a long day at the track, nothing's better than a relaxing ride home in a chauffer driven Maybach! :eek;

Probably many of the people that own these had a limo as their first car. They probably don't know how to drive nor have the time to learn and they are making billion dollar deals in the back seat.

I know Trump has one.

As I said, a relatively young lady was driving the shorter version. She did a pretty good job in the front seat.

Hey Z don't you work for MBUSA.

I would still rather drive my own car thank you. If I where to be lounging in the back I would want some underpaid stiff in the front seat bouncing me around while he exercised that 500 hp.
