Fastest speeding ticket in MN history @ 205 mph
Done on a Honda 1000.... http://wcco.com/localnews/local_story_265090112.html
"Kathy Swanson of the state Office of Traffic Safety said unless Tilley was wearing the kind of protective gear professional motorcycle racers wear, he was courting death at 200 mph. "I'm not entirely sure what would happen if you crashed at 200 miles per hour," Swanson said. "But it wouldn't be pretty, that's for sure." " That's pretty damned fast on a bike. |
I wonder how far off the flying trooper was with clicking a stopwatch. Those lines are going by pretty fast once your past 170, maybe he was a little triggerhappy?
|
I though the same but he's in a plane and I think there are lines painted on the highway specifically for timing. At first I thought it was done with radar or laser.
|
i have seen some pro racers get off the bike at some amazing speeds. they walk away from them. but on a race course there are no solid objects to bounce off of. 205 is frightening sounding!
|
I get about 366' per second. I too noticed that the officer was in a air plane. My question is, at that speed or near it, wouldn't time error in clicking the stop be a significant factor. I guess it would still be very, very fast. I wonder what mods the honda had, or was it downhill in a tail wind?

The Honda was a CBR1000RR. That bike is good for 184 bone stock.

CBR 1000 Hurricane...stroked to 1200cc, higher comp pistons, full D&D setup, Apex'i filter on a custom ram-air box, lots of carb and ignition tweaking (not sure what all was done), down one in the rear/up one in front, 3" longer swing arm, front loaded, lowered about 1.5", shark tale (solo bike). With the lighter fuel cell and ditched un-needed weight, she weighed 380lbs wet. I got up to 178mph in between Huntsvilled and Conroe TX on I45. Ridiculously fast. Looking at the differnce between 20mph and 40mph, I have a hard time imagining 205.
...I will say, though, after 160 it doesn't really matter. Depending on your eye-sight, tunnel vision starts to take effect around 140mph and speeds beyond that just kinnd blur all together... |
Porsche content!!
Another story on the subject: http://www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress/9716733.htm?1c |
I have a Honda Hurricane 1000F. The only thing faster than the 911.
But still not as fast as the G4. |
With a good lawyer, the ticket should be dismissed or reduced to a lesser offense since 205mph is virtually impossible on any motorcycle except a GP bike, salt lake racer, or funny bike. If the cop found a turbo hanging off the engine that'd be another story.
A friend was relating a story on the original Hayabusa testing where Suzuki was having problems with the bike not accelerating good after 180. They found that the air pressure on the brake lever was applying the brakes so they made a more aerodynamic lever. |
