That's not debate, it's deflection.

Weeeeeelllllll...... if we could take the opinion that there was bad intelligence about the threat that was(n't) Saddam, I think someone is perfectly entitled to most of those quotes (if allowed context). Even more so if you believed the UN should be involved.

The problem is reducing what he says to soundbites. There is often an explanation for what the soundbites portray as a change in position.

However, the way Kerry splits hairs on this stuff is a serious weakness... at least in the eyes of many voters.

The point is that all of your "lists" like this suffer from the Kerry/Rather type collaboration that intentionally obscures the truth. For example:
Quote:

10. Ahmed Chalabi

BUSH INVITES CHALABI TO STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS...President Bush also met with Chalabi during his brief trip to Iraq last Thanksgiving [White House Documents 1/20/04, 11/27/03]

...BUSH MILITARY ASSISTS IN RAID OF CHALABI'S HOUSE "U.S. soldiers raided the home of America's one-time ally Ahmad Chalabi on Thursday and seized documents and computers." [Washington Post, 5/20/04]
How could even a Democrat try to imply some sort of flip flop here. Because Bush invites a man to the inauguration..along with thousand of other folks...and then months later the miliatry (with the word Bush's conveniently placed in front of it to mislead) raids the man's home after charges were made that he was providing intel to the enemy. LOL...that is patheic..even for Move-on.org...You guys must think that potential democratic voters are even stupider than we do to expect them to fall for that...come on, "Bush's miliary?" LOL

This one is the same...as they all are. We found weapons on mass destruction...no doubt...just as Bush said. We did not find "stockpiles" of weapons od mass destruction...just like Bush said. Once again this attempts to mislead (very poorly) the public about what was actually said. Apparently it is thought that posting sheer volumn of silliness like these will prevent anyone with a clue from pointing out the obvious errors...and the dems will convince that knuckledragging constituency of theirs that it is true. Even more pathetic than normal!

Quote:

12. Weapons of Mass Destruction

BUSH SAYS WE FOUND THE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION..."We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories...for those who say we haven't found the banned manufacturing devices or banned weapons, they're wrong, we found them." [President Bush, Interview in Poland, 5/29/03]

...BUSH SAYS WE HAVEN'T FOUND WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION "David Kay has found the capacity to produce weapons. And when David Kay goes in and says we haven't found stockpiles yet, and there's theories as to where the weapons went. They could have been destroyed during the war. Saddam and his henchmen could have destroyed them as we entered into Iraq. They could be hidden. They could have been transported to another country, and we'll find out." [President Bush, Meet the Press, 2/7/04]

The only pathetic is Bush's inability to be a man and state that they didn't find meaningful WMD or programmes because they screwed up and there weren't any to be found.

Then he should fire someone.

Geez, is a company made that kind of error there would be serious bloodletting at the management level...

fintstone 09-22-2004 07:24 PM

If Bush was so pathetic...the Democrats would not have to work so hard to mislead regarding everything he says and does....F911 and 60 Minutes would not have to lie and forge documents in an attempt to make him look bad....his record would be enough....like Kerry's.

I think the administration has made it very clear what WMD they found...and the stockpiles they didn't find....

CamB 09-22-2004 07:48 PM

I think the administration has made it very clear what WMD they found...and the stockpiles they didn't find....

Which bears remarkably little similarity to what they originally said they would find and wouldn't find. Hence the flip flop and my accusation of not being a man enough to apologise for screwing up.

fintstone 09-22-2004 08:00 PM

He clearly stated what he expected to find....then stated what we found....then stated that we did not find what we expected. No flip flop whatsoever.
Let me simplify: It is like saying that you have to take a crap...going to the john and having nothing come out..regardless of your initial expectations and strenuous hemoroidal action....then stating that your mission was unsuccessful. You did not flip-flop.....you had every intention of leaving a log the size of a football...it just didn't happen for reasons beyond your control..you were mistaken. You admitted passing only gas. What is the problem? Either get on with life and business(Bush) or whine about being a war hero for the next 30 years.

Alternatively, you might be the CEO of a company looking to launch a new product. You go to shareholders to ask for money, explaining that you have "slam dunk" market research which suggests it will be a success.

When it's not the success you promised it to be, you come back to your shareholders and, somehow without saying sorry, explain to them that the market was not what the research said it should be, largely because the research was crap.

You take the opportunity to note however, that "any publicity is good publicity". Only one guy in the marketing department is made to leave, and he's not the most senior guy.

Actually, I don't know why I'm really bothering with this. I suspect you still believe that the intelligence about the weapons remains correct and that the original justification remains.

Intel has always been a series of educated guesses based on information provided by characters who are typically almost as bad as the target.

CamB 09-22-2004 08:25 PM

The difference is startling between the UK, where it is perfectly acceptable to bay for blood on Iraq-related screw-ups, to the US where for some reason the public are able to even see a rationale to debate that there was a screw up of note.

fintstone 09-22-2004 10:16 PM

Most screw-ups in Iraq are fabrications by the terrorist who wish to sway public opinion....or their cronies (liberal politicians and their operatives)...the ones that are not fabricated or misrepresented are simply that...mistakes. people acting with the best of motives to try to do the right thing. You can either sit down and cry yourself to sleep about a mistake and do nothing becuase the fear of making another paralyzes you...or simply get up and continue to try to do the right thing. Europeans have always been damn happy for us to do this on their behalf to save their whiney asses....but the rest of the time, they resent the US because they wish they had the nads to do the same.

CamB 09-23-2004 02:17 PM

I was actually talking about the WMD screw-ups, but never mind.

You need to stop blaming liberals for all the problems in the world - we are the ones with the victim mentality, remember ;)
