Need a computer disinfectant!

Like an idiot, I clicked on the "Pics Of My Cars Not Bragging" thread and now it seems I have more viruses than Dennis Rodman.

I have Norton Internet Security, but that doesn't seem to be the cure. Any recommendations?

And then once you are clean, head over to mozilla.org and get either the full mozilla suite or firefox.

BSK - Macs are nice... in fact, my new "server" at home is an old slot-DVD drive iMac. Runs Debian GNU/Linux just fine

That's also indicative that you don't have a fully patched Windows system. Do a complete Windows Update. You might have to reboot and go back for more updates.

Yeah, my Mac at home is trouble free as usual. The WinBox at work is infected.

I opened it @ home with Mozilla firefox - didn't get anything. I saw all the xxx links, and the rest of the page looked like BS, so I bailed.

Download Mozilla, get your virus defs up to date, run a scan, run adaware, run spybot search and destroy, load mozilla, and then delete the Internet Explorer icon from your desktop. 99.99% of your issues will go away. Just reboot for the for the other .01%

How do I delete the IE icon from the desktop? Do I then have to keep it off of there? How do I get on the web then?

Sorry, I'm a computer illiterate. TIA.

Just click and drag it into your recycle bin. Download Mozilla before you delete IE and install it after you have cleaned everything up with Norton, Adaware, and Spybot S&D. Use Mozilla instead of the IE browser to get to the web. It will import all of you IE favorites. Mozilla will take you a day or so to get used to, but it will be worth it. You may have to install Java also.

Outlook is next for me. I havent dumped it yet since adaware and Mozilla got rid of a majority of the issues I was having. I've started going out to ISP's webmail system to dump all of the spam and virus crap before I hit the send receive button on my Outlook.

Once you delete the icon, you can always access IE from the Start Menu. But, yeah, Mozilla Firefox is pretty good....unless, of course, you're needing to use Active-X controls. I imagine you can work around this, but it takes a bit if savvy.

Don't try to un-install IE or delete the application, just dont use it. The only issue I have had with Mozilla on my personal machine was that I needed to install Java, not a big deal. I think I had to do that when I had my first XP machine as well. My work computer is a different story. I have to use IE due to some company intranet stuff and a web app that I work with that doesnt support Mozilla. Its not my machine so I dont dork around with it too much.
