Why I am conservative #42

The Ten Commandments contain 297 words.
The Bill of Rights is stated in 463 words.
Lincoln's Gettysburg Address contains 266 words.
A recent federal directive to regulate the price of cabbage contains 26,911 words.

Interesting, Dan. But you know, this notion that conservative politicians promote smaller government is mythological. Republican administrations spend more money and enlarge government compared to dem admins. The current administration is a perfect example. Both spending and government size are higher right now than at any time in our nation's history. Same with Bush 41 and Mr. Reagan.

The reason you've heard so much about dems' tendency to regulate is because conservatives are pissed off at dems for wanting to regulate businesses. The conservative definition of "freedom" is the unregulated authority to make money any way you can get it, regardless of who it hurts. Reps want to regulate people (abortion, privacy, etc) and not business. Dems want to regulate business, not people. I'm part of the latter group, obviously.

I've got two words for most people, does that make me better than the 10 Commandments?

How fking stupid...I was gona say U boyz are...but won't do that cause that might be a personal attack...

Look at your government....YOu have a large Civil Service that stays on the job no matter who the Prez is...YOu might say it is a beast , and Prez have a difficult time changing the course of intrenched Bureaucrats....

When a law is passed in congress guess who writes the statute?

Second take a look around at the various Lobbying /Special Interest Groups....they largely support both sides of the aisle...so no matter who wins the election they are covered...

So what it boils down to is that is that some groups like the ACLU will support only Liberal Politicans and the NRA will only support Conserative Politicans no matter what side of the aisle they should sit on..

Other wise you really don't get much change in the way government is run...our government is so codified thats it's created a system or way of doing things that it would literally take Gawd himself to come down with a lightening bolt to change.

So why harp on Consertative or Liberal .....it's all the fking same...the free radical in the system this time was Howard Dean.....he was an outsider and outsiders don't get to run on establishment or system tickets...Even edwards if you notice didn't win any primaries....running as VP is going to make him a made man in the system, why because he's paying his dues...he's bowing down to the system and next time if Kerry loses he has a shot...along with Hilliary...and Hilliary has to win one more election ...to keep her Senate seat in 2006, to see if she is a viable Prez canidate..she still has to prove herself.

Boyz in conclusion you get bought off by the details and argue minuatia....take a deep breath and look up and around you and see the BIG PiCTURE.

Hey, Superman, I really appreciate your thoughtful comments here in OT land. Though we disagree on political matters, you always respond with far more reason than most.

I am as disappointed with Republican overspending as Democratic overspending. I live my life debt-free. Outside of mortgages on real estate, an appreciating asset, I owe nothing. The P-cars were paid for with cash. The one credit card is paid in full each month. Why can't I expect the same level of common sense from the government?

I guess it's because most people are comfortable with car payments, credit card payments, zero money down on your new big-screen TV etc. When people with this attitude are elected to public office, they see nothing wrong with deficit spending.

Politicians on both sides of the isle know it's easier to stay in power if you offer candy rather than vegetables. Doesn't make it right, does it?

While I am not happy with Bush's spending binge, I do believe Super may be bending the stats a wee bit by including the military in his statement about Govt. growth.

My original point is that government, by nature, is inefficient.

I have three employees. We all know who did what, and we cover for each other on a regular basis. Accountability. If something doesn't get done, everybody knows who's shoulders it falls on. The larger the organization, the less accountability. Everyone has heard stories of employees hiding, and doing as little as possible, staying below the radar screen. Can't happen with three people.

All of us can come up with ideas on how to do something better. We try it. Sometimes it doesn't work out. I have no idea how many times I've had to say "we'll find a different way next time". (Usually my ideas!)

Now the US Army cannot have new privates deciding how to do something better. In an organization that size, that is the recipe for anarchy. There HAS to be a proper chain of command.

In short, a small organization is flexible. More efficient.

We Pelicanheads are all freaks about Porsches. We like to see horsepower and torque figures. Well, hey- Any greyhound bus puts any of our numbers to shame! And look at the contact patches available when you have ten tires! Why don't we sing the praises of Greyhound busses? They are fat pigs! We like light and nimble! Why can't I like an organization with the same characteristics as my car?
