Getting fed up with email scams
 

Several times a week now, I get emails from scammers posing as a bank, credit card company or Pay Pal.... asking me to "update my account" (which I do not have with any of them) and then sending me to a link that asks for personal information such as Credit Card info, PIN numbers, Social Security numbers etc.

I certainly hope that people are not dumb enough to fall for this crap...but I suspect that they are. Tell everyone that you know not to fall for this.

Me too...always delete...never click on the link. BTW, print one of these scams out some time...you'll see writing you didn't see on the screen. Pretty obvious scam tho...why would a bank email you to ask for info they already have? They wouldn't. Here's a link to a related thread..

I actually take a look at the headers and send it on to the netblock owner. If it is a paypal or credit card scam, I forward it (headers and all - the headers have the *good* information in 'em :) ) to abuse@ the real company ( abuse@paypal.com , etc)

The sad thing is this one went right through my spam email blocker from my ISP and looks perfectly original. I also have some cards from Citibank. It's called trolling, they send out several million and hope to get a few "bites". And some people wonder what the big fuss over spam is!

I got one from what apeared to be Ebay some time ago. Looked ligit at the time. Made the mistake of sending off my VISA number, but nothing else before I realized I'd made a mistake. Changed my credit card (I'd had that number for too many years anyway) immediately. After that, I just forwarded them to "spoof@ebay.com". Shortly after, I didn't receive anymore. Now, I just delete any asking for any kind of update of personal info.
