Admit your mistakes and move on - way to go Tony!

(George: nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

Blair concedes errors in Iraqi chemical weaponry assumptions

in part:

"In the most stark admission of failure yet made by a major Western leader, British Prime Minister Tony Blair delivered words yesterday that amounted to an apology to members of his Labour Party for having claimed last year that Saddam Hussein possessed chemical and biological weapons.

"The evidence about Saddam having actual biological and chemical weapons, as opposed to the capability to develop them, has turned out to be wrong. I acknowledge that and accept it," he told delegates at his party's convention in Brighton."

whereas George, in an amazing demonstration of the art of the flip-flop:

"has remained unrepentant about the weapons claim used last year in an attempt to provide a legal justification for the invasion of Iraq. In recent months, Mr. Bush has variously argued that the weapons would soon be found, that they have been found, and that their presence or absence is irrelevant."

very likely:

"With those words, a gulf opened between Mr. Blair and U.S. President George W. Bush"

Looks like the US is becoming more and more Island America with each passing day that George spends in the Whitehouse. Aw, who needs the rest of the world anyway, right guys?

GWB is in a lose lose on this one, if he continues his current line people criticize him, yet if he admits that he was wrong he'll be criticized even more. Given the intelligence he was presenty by all the various intelligence agencies both foreign and domestic, and given Saddam's history, I think I would have made the same decision he did. What Bush needs to do is simply state that the intelligence was wrong, and his plan to prevent it from happening again.

Presidents are faced with tough decisions everyday based on information they recieve from intelligence and their advisors. What would happen if we hadn't acted against Saddam and there was a terrorist attack on the US involving weapons traced back to Saddam? All of this intelligence would have been brought to light and Bush would be rightly criticized for inaction. I'd rather err on the side of security and be wrong about the weapons than have the reverse be true. I give the president a pass on this one because there are plenty of other good reasons for removing Saddam.

Besides that the article above makes it sound as if W still says they have WMD's etc.. He does not and I have heard it myself. I forget how he worded it, but it was something along the lines of "all intelligence told us X and it was wrong".

But yours sounds better:)

I'm gonna poke the hornets nest on this one - remember that one of the traits that some of you guys love about Bush is his integrity. He's just been out-integritied by a British left winger...

StevoRocket 09-29-2004 03:32 PM

Sorry - Blair is a right winger - pretending to be a left winger. Thats why he stole all the right wing policies to get into power in the first place.

I wasn't going to let the facts get in the way of a good story (I sort of knew that, but had never seen it expressed in as many words).
