2 different bands all together.

The Bon Scott band was more bluesy, more tounge in cheek with the sexual innuendo...more whisky tainted and sleazy.

Brian Johnson's band was more 80s hair metal tempered by faux disco dance grooves...still with some tounge in cheek sexual innuendo....but not as sleezy as Bon's.

If I had a daughter, I wouldnt trust her with Bon Scott.

For me, it’s the Bon Scott era stuff. No question. Not just because of Bon, either. The Young brothers were absolute animals on the early albums. The leads from the real bluesy songs like 'Night Prowler' and 'Ride On' and the brutally simple and catchy riffs from 'Whole Lotta Rosie', 'Dirty Deeds', and 'TNT' still make me go home and pick up the guitar every time I hear them on the radio.

Back in Black is still a great album and Brian Johnson is huge part of what made AC/DC successful over the years. Brian Johnson is the only guy who could have come in and followed what Bon Scott did previously.

I admit to musical ignorance. I never really took a love for it. It's not that I don't enjoy it, just never got "into" it. Which era is "back in black"? I would assume the latter.

Ok, another question. To the "true fans" is a song like BnB considered "bubble gum"? I mean do you guys consider the radio tracks to be their best or even good work or only the price you have to pay for the truely good tracks? Did that make any sense?

I'm not a "true fan*," but I think it would be hard to consider BnB bubble gum. It is truly a great album that has and will stand the test of time.

And I think Brian Johnson deserves a lot of credit. He came in under the toughest of circumstances - replacing a hugely popular lead singer of a band that was peaking. There was a ton of pressure on Brian Johnson, and he had a huge part of making BnB (I think he did all the lyrics).

(*I'm a fairly "casual fan" - I don't break out the albums anymore, but I definately crank it up when I hear it on the radio!)

I don't consider it "bubblegum". Just becuase something gets widespread AOR (album oriented rock) radio play doesn't make it "sell out" in my book. I too give huge props to Johnson, and BinB was as much statement as it was hit record. Not many bands have survived the death of a "critical" member. And ACDC came back in spades.

That being said, there is a certain snarl and somewhat disturbing vibe to Bon's voice that cannot be replaced. As said above, I wouldn't trust anyone's daughter with him. Brian Johnson would probably just sleep with her...Bon would likely do other things...

It was. Black was probably the best transition album from one key player to another.

Both eras equal out IMHO.
