I still don't understand what some guys have against the Cayenne. I'd have bought one if the test drive car I had was better put together. Instead I opted for the Infiniti FX45. Look, there are people out here who buy crossover vehicles like the Cayenne because we want sports car handling in our SUVs. And, we choose to drive SUVs because they can seat 4 or 5 plus has room for stuff.

Because they killed racing to build it and its ugly.

That's what station wagons are for...Audi RS6 anyone?

Audi RS6 huh? I'm gonna have to check that out. I've always liked Audis but just wasn't sure about their reliability.

Or Mercedes-Benz E55T, or BMW 540i estate...there are a lot to choose from.

Actually I looked at the Audi US site and it appears that you guys don't get the RS6. Shame.

If 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds isn't quick enough to get the kids to school, then you can opt for the 'Plus' version. After that, you're beyond help...talk to Brabus about an EV12T.

I don't have anything against it. It's not my favorite Porsche but it keeps the company in business so why not. As far as the Audis, I think they are awesome cars. My boss has an S6 Avant and it looks incredible. I have yet to drive in it though.

Personally I don't mind the Cayenne, but I hate SUVs in general. They are utterly pointless for the city. If you have a lot of kids, get a people mover. If you need to carry groceries or go camping, get a station wagon. If you need to carry firewood or building materials, get a ute. There is absolutely no reason to have a great big SUV in urban areas that is a danger to other motorists (more so than a regular size car).

If (and a big if) you do want to go off road, you should be required to have a special licence and be restricted as to when and where you can drive it in urban areas. Then of course I'm going to have people asking why don't we have special licences for high performance cars...and we should!

Ok, it seems that everyone would prefer a station wagon to an SUV. Now, what I want to know is, would you prefer the Cayenne to be more like an RS6 (Magnum/wrx performance wagon) instead of an SUV?

Yep, then it'd be closer to being a real Porsche, in terms of handling etc (lower centre of gravity, less weight etc). It's pretty useless offroad in standard form with the standard wheels and tyres...and how many people would use their $A230 000 cars on rough roads anyway?

They can slap a Porsche crest on a Daihatsu Cuore if they want: if that allows them to make cars like the GT3RSR!

It's a nicer package than anything on the road no? Perfection in the market? Lets see, you have the ML, X5, the Rovers, thats about it right? If you want the best, there is no substitute.

I want one... Turbo would be better... :D

This would go nicely with the 911 I want.

The RS6 is nice but is not capable of towing anything significfant. The Cayenne can tow 7200 pounds. And it leaves nothing in the handling department. Someone please show me some laps times for an RS6 or another SUV that compare with the Cayenne at Nurburgring or Hockenhiem ...... :D

Hey if an RS6 is good enough for both of the Schumacher brothers to have, then it's good enough for me. If you need to tow something, buy older truck and only use it when you have to tow something. That way you're minimising the risk to other road users by not driving a giant hatchback crusher when you don't need to.

BTW RS6 does 8:20 round the 'Ring.

Like many, you've missed the point of the Cayenne entirely. Why give up the ability to tow AND have world-class handling, acceleration and braking (did you know the Cayenne can brake within a few feet of a 996?). Porsche engineers have brilliantly combined all these features with little - if any - compromise. I've owned many full-size trucks for towing - to be blunt, they handle, brake and accelerate dangerously, just like many conventional SUV's.

I believe in defensive driving for safety. The better a car brakes, handles and accelerates, the safer it is in the hands of an alert driver. The Pepper is MUCH safer than all the little "eco-friendly" *****boxes puttering around ...... of course, I've got more income than style, so what do I know? :rolleyes:

I'm not concerned about Cayenne drivers such as yourself. I'm more concerned about the soccer mums who run red lights or fail to check blindspots and absolutely annihilate all cars smaller than a full size sedan. If SUVs aren't allowed on a track with cars, why should they be allowed on the road? How are you meant to look ahead 5 or 6 cars if you can't even see past one?

More to the point, how many Cayenne owners chose their car over a station wagon simply because of their need to tow stuff? I would think the figure would be very, very low.

For what it is worth, in my area I see more Dads driving the Cayenne then Moms...

OK, I didn't buy a Cayenne but I did buy my Infiniti over a BMW station wagon because it can tow 3500 lbs if and when I need it to.

As I said, the minority of 4wd owners buy them so they can tow stuff. The rest just like being able to look down on traffic and feel they own the road (this is not just my opinion, but has been proven by research in Australia). They are the dangerous ones. If we have separate licences for trucks, why not for 4wds?
