Won't argue that one at all. Amazing man. Amazing times.

Hard to discount Washington. At the end of the revolution, he had total control of the military and a population that deified him. A poll taken after the war showed that the vast majority of the population wanted Washington to become king! (After all, it's what they were used to). When General Washington surrendered his sword to a rag-tag congress, it was perhaps the most important moment in our history.

I second both those choices but I won't forget FDR - Franklin Delano Roosevelt with his 4 terms as president. He sure did a great deal to carry the country through the Great Depression as well as instituting reform and creating many of the programs and administrative agencies we have today.

Where is Regan?

His speech to the dead mic defeated the Ruskies.

Why'd you leave Reagan off?

Here are the choices we're left with, and forgive me for thinking it's because of some bias. I'm gonna over-analyze here.

Richard Nixon - every remembers him as a sweaty lying thief, wheter or not it's true. Note that you capitalized his name, subliminal?

thomas jefferson - the average person doesn't remember much about him. Seems like a good filler, right? note the non caps...?

Bill Clinton - favorite president of the left, most ineffective president since Carter. Lefties like him because he got BJ's in office and didn't do anything to break anything. Heck, it was the 90's... technology was good, if it feels go do it, yadda yadda yadda. name capitalized.

george dubya - lefties hate him, right wingers love him. noted non-caps, you didn't even type his whole name.

Let off a few choices that'd have been interesting... Reagan, George Bush Sr., Carter, George Washington?

Isn’t Greenspan responsible for any good that came from Reagan’s presidency?

1. Washington- for relinquishing the throne
2. TeddyR- for conservationism
3. Lincoln- for his sense of fairness
4. LBJ- for civil rights and being a farmboy sucess in DC
5. Hoover. (No. Just kidding.)

If you're a fan of Lincoln, you MUST read Lincoln by Gore Vidal. A beautiful historical biography, well researched. Best presidential biography I've read.

I've read parts of that. Wish I had more time for reading. Frankly, I'm still working on a newspaper I bought last Wednesday. Reading it one dump at a time, if you know what I mean. Eating while dashing down hallways. I've got to change my lifestyle. What would a doctor say?

I don't believe I actually agree with tabs, but there you have it. I agee. It's Abraham Lincoln, and I would put Washington a close second, and FDR third.

Ah, but he was a screaming success when it came to promoting the arts, particularly the hardcore, angst ridden, punk rock type. The 80s would have been pretty boring without the Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Agent Orange, Social D., etc, etc, etc. Another failed ideolog in a time of turmoil.

Only one mention of JFK? Whats the deal?
